Hi List, In Indiana when a person applied for a marriage license, they had to give their mother's maiden name (I know as far back as at least 1880). Did they have to do they same in IL? If so, does someone have access to a listing for Lawrence Co., IL. And if they do, would they please do a look up for me? I have a Richard UMSTED & Emily C. Potts 1 Aug 1870. I would like to have Richard's mother's maiden name. If that doesn't work we could try Phillip UMSTEAD to Margaret? maybe 1869 to 1875, in either Lawrence, Jasper, or Clay Co., IL, and still needing Phillip's mother's maiden name.
