    1. [ILCLAY-L] MELTON'S: Kentucky 1820's to Clay/Jefferson Counties, IL 1850's
    2. Does anyone have among their "loose" ancestors anyone who may have been the parent of Thomas MELTON who was born in Kentucky about 1821? Thomas MELTON is my great-great-grandfather. I don't have a whole lot of information on him. I do know that he married Evaline BATEMAN, who was born 10 Sep. 1823 in Jefferson County, Illinois, daughter of Asahel BATEMAN and Millie JOHNSON, but I don't know when or where they were married. Thomas and Evaline had the following children (1-6 from Census info): (1) Samantha H (2) Nancy Caroline, b. 16 Apr 1844, marr. Richard Jefferson HOLTSCLAW (3) Mary A, b. 1845 (4) Martha Elizabeth, b. 1847. marr. Pinchney WELLS (5) James William, b. 14 Jan 1849. marr. Marcella Josephine TUBBS (6) Thomas M, b. 1855, marr. (1) Sarah C. DICKERSON, 1878, (2) Susan B CHAMBERS(1881) (7???) Mattarson I - he is mentioned in Evaline's obitiary of 1905, referred to as residing in Vermillion Co., IL, but this is the only information I have on him. Thomas was a blacksmith in Xenia (Clay Co.) Illinois and died there 6 Feb 1855. He was only about 34 years of age. I have been searching for his birthdate, parentage, and where he is buried for the past 30 years and I am desperate to find information on my great-great-grandather and would appreciate any information at all. Thank you for any help at all. Jerry Chittenden Portland OR Preferred E-mail: JerryC490@hotmail.com Secondary E-mail: JerryC490@aol.com
