Greetings, All !!! :) Thought you could ALL use a wry smile for the day !!! >;-) Feel free to add on more that you can think of !!! :) Enjoy !!! :) Best Regards, Linda K. Redwood. LAWS OF GENEALOGY 1. The document containing evidence of missing links in your research invariably will be lost due to fire, flood or war. 2. The keeper of vital records you need will just have been insulted by some other genealogist. 3. Your Great Great Grandfather's obituary states he died leaving no issue of record. 4. The will you need is in a safe, on the RMS Titanic. 5. The ancient photo of 4 relatives, one of whom is your direct ancestor, carries the names of the other 3. 6. Copies of old newspapers have holes occurring only on last names. 7. You learn that Great Aunt Matilda's executor just sold her life's collection of family genealogy material to a flea market dealer in New York City. 8. No one in your family tree ever did anything noteworthy, always rented property, was never sued, and was never named in any will. 9. Yours is the only last name not found among the 3 billion in the Mormon archives. 10. Ink fades and paper deteriorates at a rate inversely proportional to the value of the data recorded. 11. The critical link in your family tree is named "Smith". 12. The 37- volume, 16000-page history of your county of origin isn't indexed. 13. Your ancestor is ALWAYS on the page of the microfilmed Census Reports that is mangled, burned, torn, in essence, totaly unreadable !!!! 14. Or worse, if you are able to locate your ancestor on the microfilm, the handwriting is so illegible that it mystifies you into wondering if THAT even IS your long lost ancestor ?? 15. When you find a picture of your ancestor in complete military attire, then send off for the military record .... only to get the response back, "No Record". 16. Following up on a family legend you go off to the final resting place of your Great Great Grandfather, only to find out that there is No record & No proof that he really is buried there. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Recently, there was some discussion on this list regarding the Tolivers of Clay Co, IL, Lawrence Co, IN and Ashe Co, NC. Unfortunately, I have "lost" these postings so don't know to whom I should reply. I am descended from Allen and Susan (FINGER) TOLIVER of Mitchell, Lawrence Co, IN through their son George Washington TOLIVER (1845-1927) of RR Noble, IL. My grandmother was Mamie (TOLIVER) Martin, George Washington's youngest daughter. Frank TOLIVER, one of George's sons was an avid family genealogist as far back as about 1930. He and wife, Helen (BRUNER) TOLIVER, recorded many of the family names of this TOLIVER line, including those of Goerge's siblings, including Jacob, Jesse, Joseph, William B. and others of Clay nad Richland Counties as well as those who remained in Indiana. Would enjoy sharing information with others researching this line back in IL, IN, NC and VA. I recently ran across a fascinating article on The Ernst Colony written by Paul Stroble, Jr. in "Foot Prints" published by the Richland County Genealogical and Historical Society. Can anyone provide the grave marker inscription or dates of birth/death for Samuel PARKS, Revolutionary War soldier, buried in "Old Lost" Cemetery, Louisville, IL? Hi all !!!!! :) Thought you all may need a smile !! :0 I just got on the Ameritech.net system. Yesterday this was on their home page. It is a genealogist / chiphead's dream !!! :) Enjoy !! Best Regards from a Fellow Dead Relative Collector, Linda K. Redwood Storytelling tombstones? Granite tombstones are so 20th century. When we die, we want a Lief Technologies gravestone with multimedia capabilities! That's right, it's a gravestone with a small computer display that can show pictures and text. Instead of just having your dates of birth and death engraved into a stone, you can leave up to 250 pages of genealogic information, pictures, stories and advice for the ones you leave behind. Now, if they can just come up with a model that's hooked up to the Web! _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. TOLIVER, ISOM,MAXWELL: Jacob Toliver was born about 1799 in Ashe County, NC. On 27 Dec 1821 he married Susannah (Susan) Isom (born about 1806 in Virginia to John S and Rebecca (Cole) Isom) in Grayson County, Virginia. They were in Martin Twp, Lawrence County, Indiana by 1833 and had moved to Pixley Twp, Clay County, Illinois by the mid to late 1840s. Jacob was dead by October 1854. Jacob and Susannahs children were (at least) Sarah, b-1830 Vi; Mahala, b-Jan 1833 In; Darcus, b-1836 In; Wilburn, b-1838 In; John, b-1841 In; Harriet(?), b-1842 Il and George A, b-1843 In. Unconfirmed research indicates Jacob Tolivers parents were Jesse Toliver and Francis (Franky) Stamper. Bible and Revolutionary War records of Jesse indicate that he did indeed have a son Jacob born 27 July, 1799. I would like to know when Susannah (Isom) Toliver died and where she and Jacob are buried. I would also like to communicate with any researchers that are researching the Tolivers that moved from Ashe County, NC (some apparently through Alabama) to South-central Indiana (Orange, Lawrence, Greene and Owen) to Eastcentral Illinois (Clay, Richland, Jasper). Several of the Tolivers listed in the Clay County, Il Cemetery Books have Lawrence County, Indiana connections including both living there and being born there. I am especially interested in John B Toliver and his wife Soloma Miller (page 145 of Cem Book) who were from Ashe Co, NC, lived in Alabama (based upon the birth location of several of his children), moved to Lawrence County, In (where he owned land and sold out in 1839 ) and moved to Clay (or that area) where he died in 1863 at the age of 83. He is of the age to be our Jesse Tolivers brother, but I have no proof of that. I am also interested in the two Toliver women (Susan and Francis) that married Alexander and John Maxwell in Lawrence County, In in 1841 and then moved to Clay County. Who were these womens parents? I feel that many if not all of these Tolivers came from the same set of Toliver ancestors. Several researchers are trying to resolve this prolific and tangled family. I obviously would like to communicate with any current descendants and researchers of these people. Does anyone know where Franklin Family Bibles might be found? My cousin found an old letter dated 1930 that reported that my great grandfather, John Henry Phillips, left his mother's (Phoebe Franklin m. I am currently searching for information on several lines of my wifes family tree. Would anyone have information on the Songer family of Clay county. Samuel Songer was born in Virginia, and married Elizabeth Jane Whitman who was born in Kentucky. They had saveral children. I think all were born in Songer Township, in Clay county, IL. I am especially interested in their daughter Frances Ann Songer who was born in 1841. I am also interested in James F. Davis and his wife Amanda E. Adams who moved to Clay county and had a daughter named Malinda C. Davis sometime around 1865. Any information, on any of the above named people, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Robert Kruse kruser@rr1.net
Hi, Is any one researching Elliotts in Clay Co? I know that Thomas J. DENTON (b. ca. 1812) and Elizabeth ELLIOTT (b. ca 1823) were married in Clay Co. in 1939. Elizabeth had a brother James b. ca 1840. Don't know where they went from there until they show up in Pulaski Co. MO in 1860. By 1870 they had moved on. I would be grateful for any information on any ELLIOTT's in Clay Co. Jan Aldinger ding@garrison.ndak.net
