It's made me crazy for a long time, so hopefully someone out there knows the answer :-) I do see 2 MOORE's married to COLCLASURE's in my data though: JOSHUA RONSON MOORE married MARY JANE COLCLASURE 1/29/1847 Orange Co., IN ALICE MOORE married PERRY COLCLASURE Bef. 1901 probably in Clay Co., IL Hopefully this will help a little bit! If you find out the answer about Nancy Colclasure and Samuel Moore please let me know, or better yet hopefully they will post the answer to the list! THANKS! Tricia

    1. [ILCLAY-L] Colclasure/Moore
    2. Sarah Fezio
    3. Hi, I know info about the Colclasure family has been posted to the list, but I deleted those messages. I didn't remember them saying anything about my Moores though. I was wondering about Nancy Colclasure b. 1822 in Indiana who was living with Samuel B. Moore Sr. in 1850 in Clay County, Ill. Two Colclasure children (I assume they were hers) Sarah b. 1840 Illinois and John b. 1842 in Illinois were living in the househeld. Did Samuel and Nancy ever get married? She couldn't have been his daughter since all his kids were born in Ohio. Did they have any children? Who was her first husband? and what was her maiden name? I know these are a lot of questions but I am very excited since I went to the archives today and made a major breakthrough on the identity of Sylvester Moore's parents! You see I believe Samuel was his father so I hope you can help with the identity of Nancy (she wasn't his mother though). Any help will be greatly appreciated. 1. [ILCLAY-L] HOCKMAN
    2. Tyler Montgomery
    3. -- [ From: Tyler Montgomery * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] -- Am interested in locating the death record for a Benjamin F. HOCKMAN born Oct 1895 to Benjamin and Zelpha Orman HOCKMAN. It is believed he died just prior to 1910. Family stories indicates he was ~14 when he died and he does not appear on the 1910 Marion County, census with the family unit. In 1909 the family was in the xenia area as I have a Clay County birth record for a Vera HOCKMAN in the 1909/10 time frame. Sure would appreciate any information and look up if you have a Clay County death record index available. Thanks Tyler P. Montgomery ORMAN, HOCKMAN, VAN HOUTEN, MONTGOMERY

    1. [ILCLAY-L] Bunny Travis (aka MOSELEY) Cemetery, Clay City Twp.
    2. The MOSELEY family reunion was held this past Sunday, August 9, in Flora. We decided to embark upon a major project to clean up the MOSELEY cemetery located SE of Clay City in the "Bunnyville" area. The cemetery is in bad need of cleaning, repairing, etc. Without some assistance, many grave markers are in danger of being lost forever! Our upcoming workday will be Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 am until ? We know there are other families buried there and hope anyone interested (either personally in those buried at Bunny Travis/Moseley or who just want to help make sure that a valuable piece of Clay County history will be preserved for the future) will come out and help us; we can use the help as we are a small group with several of us travelling hundreds of miles to preserve our family's heritage. For more information (and so we can get some idea as to the size of our work party), please contact me. Thanks in advance for your help!! Jim Moseley JMoseley1@aol.com 901-755-0971 (Memphis, TN)

    2. Brian & Tricia Carothers
    3. Hi Gang, Would someone with a Clay Co., IL marriage index mind looking up this couple for me: GUY HARRISON COLCLASURE and GRACE INEZ GRAHAM They probably married about 1911 or so as they had their first child (as far as I know!) about 1912. Also, I believe Guy Harrison might have married a second time to MARTHA COX, this would be after 1921 as that is when he had his last child with #1 Grace Inez. I really do appreciate this and thanks so much!! Tricia Tricia Colcleasure Carothers P.S. I am still happy to do free look ups in the Clay Co., IL Marriages 1825-1877

    1. [ILCLAY-L] Rhoades
    2. I'm having a difficult time identifying my Grgrandfather, Alexander RHOADES. I have zeroed in on the Knox County, KY, RHODES who are on the 1850 and 1860 census near Barbourville. Here's what I know: I am a descendant of Alexander RHOADES (sometimes spelled RHODES, ROADS, RHOADS) and Margaret BRIMBERRY. Alexander shows on his cemetery stone as born 12 Oct 1843. Census show born in KY. Alexander first shows up in Clay Co. IL when he married Margaret in 1868. Land records, 1881 (next to Margaret's Father) show to a "L. A. RHOADS". Family tradition holds that he took his four children and went to Arkansas upon the death of Margaret in the mid 1880s. Also that his parents were William RHODES and Anna HORN. In the 1850 and 1860 Knox Co. KY Census there are some HORN and RHODES families that are living next to each other with an Alexander RHODES with them but showing him born in 1838 (very possible I'm sure). Alexander named his children" William Isaac, Mary Elizabeth, James Henry, and Zilphia Catherine. Another researcher, on the internet, sent me an email about 6 months ago saying that these were not my Rhodes, but he won't respond to my return emails. Does anyone know where the above mentioned Alexander (the one on the Knox Co. Census) went to? I would like to find him on the 1870 or 1880 census so I can eliminate him from further consideration as my anscestor. I suspect that the Civil War had something to do with Alexander being in IL because of the time, 1868. Maybe not. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Ken Elery, Dallas, TX

The school was named for Johnathan Webster,a man with a large family who lived in the neighborhood. The school served the community as a school and a church until 1884. The first building, a log structure, burned in 1876, and was replaced by a frame building the same year. William Howes and John Baker had the contract to build it. On 20 June 1949, the school board met and voted to close the school and made that district a part of the Bowen Community District. !The Webster family was living in the Webster community before 1850. It is thought the community was named for him as he was influential is getting the Webster school built--- from Pioneers of the Prairie, Wilma Brunenn If this is true, then how wonderful, for he could not read or write. The Webster School was located about 10 miles East of Nauvoo and about 5 miles North of Ferris which is about 5 miles North of Carthage. The community of Webster was about 8 miles due East of Ferris. The Webster Cemetery is just South of St Albans Who was the Noah Webster who purchased land next to Jonathan in Hancock Co on the same day, 12 Feb 1855? Father? Brother? It was not 'our' Noah since in 1855 he was only 12 years old. In Hancock County, a deed in book 80 page 48, gives the residence of Jonathan and Nancy J on 26 Jul 1865 as Jersey County Il. Since he is not with her in the 1870 Hancock County census perhaps he died in Jersey County or in the Civil War. Johnathan may have been from Frankfort, Franklin County Ky. In one record his name was John

    3. The Thanks -- Thanks to those of you who volunteered to do lookups for the Clay Co IL GenWeb site. We got back up to 2 volunteers on many of the publications AND WE HAVE LOOKUP VOLUNTEERS ON 6 PUBLICATIONS WE DIDN'T HAVE BEFORE. The webpage has been updated, so take a look. If you have some Clay Co IL pubs and would like to volunteer, please let me know. If we already have 2 or 3 volunteers on a pub I may just put your name in my file for future use. The Oops -- I received bounces on about 4 e-mail addresses I sent yesterday so I removed them from the Query and Surname Page. The problem is that in updating the webpage I erased 2 recent posts before I had put them on the page. So if you posted a query on Friday or Saturday, please repost it -- I'll be more careful next time. Sorry.
