Does anyone on this list have the surnames SEARS/SCEARS/SEARES amongst their families. I am trying to locate family of JOHN and ISAAC SEARS/SCEARS who end up in Jasper and Cumberland Co.s, IL (Isaac) and Coles Co., IL (John). Any help is appreciated. Julie, This is wonderful! I have lots to send to you. AND, as a matter of fact, we just started a McCraw web page and rootsweb site. Your cousins are waiting to hear from you!!! Amber and Cami have set up these sites so I am making this a cc to Cami. I get bogged down sometimes so BUG me to send you a copy of every piece of documentation I have on the McCraws. I gladly share, just am slow and forgetful. I appreciate being reminded I promised to do something! Go to these sites to see our cousins: Send email to MCCRAW-L-REQUEST @rootsweb.com (type SUBSCRIBE in the subject line and the body of the text) don't put anything else in the subject line or body of the text. then send a personal message to everyone on the list by addressing the message to: MCCRAW-L@rootsweb.com See the McCraw/McGraw families at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/5612/mccraw.html Happy to have helped! Ted, Thanks for figuring out what that strange email was all about! I had several people write and tell me that they weren't getting that message, and I had another few tell me that they were! Go figure! I guess this posting will tell me if it has stopped or not. Thanks again Ted! Tricia
I still need a little help in identifying who my Grgrandfather was. I have zeroed in on the Knox County, KY, RHODES who are on the 1850 and 1860 census near Barbourville. Here's what I know: I am a descendant of Alexander RHOADES (sometimes spelled RHODES, ROADS, RHOADS) and Margaret BRIMBERRY. Alexander shows on his cemetery stone as born 12 Oct 1843. Census show born in KY. Alexander first shows up in Clay Co. IL when he married Margaret in 1868. Land records, 1881 (next to Margaret's Father, Leonard Brimberry) show to a "L. A. RHOADS". Can anyone identify the "L" for me? Family tradition holds that he took his four children and went to Arkansas upon the death of Margaret in the mid 1880s. Also that his parents were William RHODES and Anna HORN. In the 1850 and 1860 Knox Co. KY Census there are some HORN and RHODES families that are living next to each other with an Alexander RHODES with them but showing him born in 1838 (very possible I'm sure). Alexander named his children" William Isaac, Mary Elizabeth, James Henry, and Zilphia Catherine. Another researcher, on the internet, sent me an email about 6 months ago saying that these were not my Rhodes, but he won't respond to my return emails. Does anyone know where the above mentioned Alexander (the one on the Knox Co. Census) went to? I would like to find him on the 1870 or 1880 census so I can eliminate him from further consideration as my anscestor. I suspect that the Civil War had something to do with my Alexander being in IL because of the time, 1868. Maybe not. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Ken Elery, Dallas, TX

Tricia, A very wonderful person took photographs for me of my gg-grandparents' headstones (Henry Phillips & Feby Franklin) at this cemetery a few months ago. The families buried there are Wease, McCraw, Phillips, Levitt and Franklin. All but the Wease are my family. I'm not sure how the Wease relate ...yet. There may be other headstones sunken below the surface, possibly Leonard and Minard. Are any of these family names yours? These are the directions: E of Smith Cemetery to T Road, N 1/2 mi to road, left 1 mi to Cross Road, right (S) to Leese Road 3/4 mile, left (E) to corner (1/2 mi), N in field to cemetery on hill. (In the margin is written Road 950 N) Rena said it is not easy to get to. "go off a main road onto a field road which is little more than a path, and when you hit the curve in the road, one has to walk the rest of the way across the end of a wheat field up a hill to the grove of trees where the cemetery is located." Good Luck! Wanda Pitt Brian & Tricia Carothers wrote: > Hi All, > I am hoping someone can help me help a friend. She is looking for the > Leonard/Snyder Cemetery in Clay Co., IL. Rene found my gg-grandparents tombstones (Henry Phillips and Feby Franklin)at this cemetery. She also found Mary Franklin, 1st wife of Pleasant McCraw. There are Phillips, Franklins, McCraws, Levitt and Wease buried there. Rene is interested in finding out how her Wease family is related to the others in this cemetery. I'm sure any clues would be helpful. Thanks a bunch, Wanda Dear Wanda, This letter is in answer to your inquiry about the Leonard Cemetery you made with Jean Bailey. My great grandparents are also buried in this cemetery as well as several other relatives, and I had just visited the place a few weeks past when three of my nieces came to visit from Houston, Texas. The cemetery is very grown up this year and does not appear to have been mowed at all this season. In the past the county has seen to it being mowed at least one time a season usually around Memorial Day, but not this year. Tt is not exactly easy to get to. Have you been there? You go off a main road onto a field road which is little more than a path, and when you hit the curve in the road, one has to walk the rest of the way across the end of a wheat field up a hill to the grove of trees where the cemetery is located. I have a lot of questions for you. My relatives are all WEASES and I have been wondering how, if at all, the Phillips, Franklins, and McCraws tied in. I have read that my G, G, Grandma MaryAnn Leonard and even her dad, James Marcus Minard, are buried here also, but there is no stone for them. MaryAnn was married to William Leonard and I was told that his father gave the land for the cemetery and thus the name LEONARD Cemetery. As for the Snyder part of it, I was told it was sometimes referred to this because the Snyder school was nearby. My Mother is Geneva Wease Lents, daughter of Oscar and Della Yauch Wease. Oscar's Mother was Emma Mead Wease (Mrs. John) daughter of Robert A. and Mary Ann Minard Mead. Mary Ann was married three times, the last being Wm. Leonard. She secondly married Joseph Herdes. Mary Ann's Mother's name was 'Pheobe but I know very little of her. If you could shed any light on the family, I would be so grateful. Please find enclosed the pictures I have taken of the graves you requested. Hope these are o.k. If you need anything further please let me know. I will be anxiously awaiting your reply. I have also enclosed a list of those stones presently in the cemetery. 1 have been told there were others at one times but the groundhogs have worked the cemetery and perhaps the others are buried beneath the surface. Pay whatever the pictures are worth to you. Sincerely, Rena Lents Thomas --------------9BD46B07B57CF27802211B87-- --------------10A15DBE0859369EA95A8952--
Need documentation for the deaths of James Holmes b 1801 d 1880 m Ann Brownlee 1830. Ann died 1883. They lived in Clay Co. from approximately 1860 to their deaths. Many land records exist in the courthouse in Louisville but I can find no documentation of where they died or are buried. I have the dates from a book that gives no documentation. I have searched through the John Tanner book on cemeteries but cannot find them. Their son Henry who d 1873 is buried in Smith cemetery. Can anyone suggest where I might find this documentation?
