    1. [ILCLAY-L] Clay Co. Wills and Probate
    2. Viki Lovell
    3. Dear Jean, Before purchase I would appreciate knowing if my ancestors are in these Volumes, from past experience after purchase I've learned that not all Wills/Probates within a county are included in publishings. Do you have a site that lists the names within the volumes or a look-up source available? And what years are covered for the death dates? I'm interested in Wills and Probate for: Mary Levitt d. November 30, 1898 Pixley Township, Clay County, Illinois John Wesley Phillips d.1850-1858 Illinois Wright R. Phillips d.aft.1900 Hoosier Prairie Twp., Clay County, Illinois Henry Phillips d.November 30, 1854 Pixley Township, Clay County, Illinois Henry Franklin July 26, 1880 Hoosier Prairie Township, Clay County, Illinois Catherine Franklin Aft. 1870 Clay County, Illinois Permelia Phillips d.1845-1850 Illinois John P. Phillips d. abt. 1842 Illinois? Thomas Levet d.Abt. 1845 Illinois? As you can see I have an interest in purchasing several Volumes, but it could prove to be costly and not productive if my ancestors aren't listed. 1. [ILCLAY-L] desperately seeking Permelia Phillips cemetery record
    2. Viki Lovell
    3. Permelia Phillips nee Stallings born Abt. 1794; died between 1845-1850. She had a variety of nicknames such as Amelia, Melia, Pamelia, probly because of the styles of spelling during her lifetime. She had seven children and decided to try and divorce her abusive husband anyway. She wasn't sucessfull legally with her divorce but walked away and left him, taking her children with her. She is listed as the head of household in Clay County, Illinois in the 1830 census but then she disappears! She isn't found living with any of her children. She had many relatives living in Illinois and Indiana but we haven't found her living with any of them. Our family lore says she may have married Thomas Levet, but on this marriage record she used her maiden name Stallings (not Phillips) when she entered this union. We ask ourselves is this our Permelia, why did she use her maiden name Stallings, was she running from her abusive husband (the old goat!) Permelia's cemetery record could be listed under Phillips, Levitt or who knows she may have wanted to rest in peace and used her maiden name Stallings. It has been a 20 year search for her, involving 3 generations of our family. Any lead, scrap of information, or family lore that gives a hint of her final resting place would be greatly appreciated, and allow us a little rest too. Thank-you, Viki

    1. [ILCLAY-L] Peter Thompson of Clay Co, IL
    2. Don & Melissa Alexander
    3. Got the death certificate for Peter Thompson. It clearly indicates his father is Edward Thompson and his mother is Mary Mattingly, both born in KY. It gives his birth date as Feb 12, 1855. This is different from what I have seen elsewhere. He died Nov 16, 1920 in Louisville, Clay Co, IL. It gives his place of birth as KY-but I believe that brother William Thompson, who supplied the information is wrong. The obituary states that Peter died in the same house he was born in. The census gives Peter's state of birth as IL, though his older brother William was born in KY.
