I am looking for our family bible and don't know where to look. Henry Philips married Pheobe Franklin in 1851 in Clay Co, IL. They had my g-gf, John Henry Phillips, March 1854. Henry died Nov 1854 and Phoebe died Sept 1857. John Henry was raised by Pheobe's parents, Henry Franklin and Catherine Stansbury. John Henry told a cousin that he left the family bible with the Franklin family in IL when he moved to Texas abt 1877. Does anyone know if there is a museum or something in Clay Co, IL where old bibles are preserved? Thanks, Wanda
I'm looking for information on an Indian massacre that took place in 1814. William CANNON and his son, Samuel CANNON were massacred by the Indians and his wife, Abagail, dtr, Keziah and son-in-law John STARK were involved. I found a reference to an article "CANNON-STARK MASSACRE" appearing in Clay Roots, Summer of 98. Would love to have a copy of this article. I would appreciate any information about the people involved and/or the massacre. Kathi Haynes khaynes33@aol.com Tucson, AZ

I have a picture of my grandmother, Edna Gilley (who would marry Lawrence Thompson) and 2 of her sisters, Edith and Jane. It was taken about 1910-1915, based on their apparent ages. They are with their cousins Frances Day, who I am sure is the daughter of aunt Delilah Gilley who married Douglas Day, and cousin Ruth Alexander. My question is how is Ruth Alexander related to the Gilley sisters. The parents of the Gilley sisters are George Washington Gilley and Nora Krutsinger. Can anyone enlighten me? My great-great grandfather, Francis M. Lollar recorded this information in his book on the first settlement of Ingrham. "James LEVITT was the first white settler in this territory. He came from Posey Co., Indiana in 1826 and located 4 miles south of Ingraham, and west of Buckton, on the Olney & Louisville road. Mike LEVITT came about the same time and settled near his brother. Mike has three sons, Nace, Wesley, and William, all living in the immediate neighborhood." The descendants and friends of Arthur and Nancy (WATKINS) MOSELEY of Buckingham County, Virginia will hold their annual reunion Sunday, August 15, 1999 at the Flora Senior Citizens Center from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Three of Arthur and Nancy's sons settled in Clay County in the 1830's - Bennett Watkins, Robert and Edward. Little is known of Edward who seems to have moved on to Missouri. Bennett and Robert resided SE of Clay City in Clay City Township. Some other Clay County surnames associated with the Moseley Family: Travis, Hough, Holman, Evans, Hubble, Dark, Clay, Bayler, Shaffer, Webb, Smith, Poppe, Prosser, Hosselton Last fall, this group spent a day cleaning and "reclaiming" the Moseley (Bunny Travis) Cemetery se of Clay City. The cemetery had been largely forgotten for many years. The last known burial was that of John D. Moseley in 1921. Family members Doug Shaffer and Zane Moseley now maintain this old burial ground. Anyone interested is cordially invited to attend our reunion. For further information please contact the undersigned.
