I'm research my grandmother's family. Vera Jane Roberts Nix was the daughter of John Wesley Roberts and Hettie Blair. After John died in 1897, Hettie married James Gharst. John W. was the son of Jesse D. Roberts and Sarah C. French. Jesse was the son of Thomas D. and Mary Boles Robards. The name was changed so Jesse could get his Civil War pension. Hettie Blair was the daughter of George Blair and Eliza Jane Willis. George Blair was the son of Josiah Blair and Hattie Ray. Eliza Jane Willis was the daughter of William Willis and Nancy Eytchison. I hope we can exchange information and help each other. Sincerely, Darlene Nix dnix@fgi.net

I've been passively reading the posts for about a week now and decided to jump in. I recognize a few individuals that I've been in contact with before and would like to say HI to everyone on the list. I'm researching the BAITY, MCGREW, HOLMAN, SONGER, COLCLASURE, ROGERS, and BEERS lines and interested in any and all information about these families as well as families that connect to these trees. I have quite a lot of information about some of these lines, and of course next to nil on some others. I own Xenia Then and Now 1834-1984 (published 1984) and The History of Clay County, volume 1 (1969 edition, 1884 originial text). Hope all is well with everyone. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Happy Hunting! Nancy Hashimoto
Hi! I just receive my first digest and notice a few familiar names. Hi Tricia and Pamalla. Pamalla - I know we couldn't find a connection to my McGrews, but have you looked at the Bluford McGrews listed on the 1850 and 1870 KY AND 1860 AR census? I am researching the MCGREW, COLCLASURE/COLGLAZIER, and related lines including GRIFFITH and SONGER. I am most interested in any information on Jacob MCGREW and his wife Catherine, (Jacob was the son of James MCGREW and Mary Ann COLGLAZIER. He married Catherine about 1834 and moved to Dunklin County, MO in 1845.) but will gladly exhange info and theories about any of the clans. I can do reasonable lookups in the Clay Co. cemetery book - if anyone is in need. Jim VanDerMark
To Jean and Ted, Thank you for your answer on Kathern Kidwell. In case you wondered, she is a cousin of mine and she wrote a letter to my dad in 1984, which I found recently. I have not met her but wanted to get in touch with her. With the date being '84, I wasen't sure she was still in the area. That is the address I have, and the letter is written, just didn't want to mail it until I was sure. Thanks again. Jan
Seeking info on Henry HOLMES b 8 March 1840 in Washibngton Co., Pa. m 13 December 1866 to Sarah E. Michell in Richland Co. and died 17 Feb. 1873 in Sailor Springs (Clay co.) He is buried in Smith Cemetary and has a GAR flagpole at his grave. Trying to deterimine whether he was in the Civil War. Have been through all the computer listings in Springfield but they don't show him - however I have found that in some county libraries they have records of the people who belonged to the GAR - maybe his service records just got lost. Any help would be appreciated. Cleona
Hi all-- I would like to know if any one on this mailimg list lives in Louisville, Il. or near by. I am trying to find out if Kathern Kidwell still lives in the area. Would like to contact her if she does. Thanks Jan

Sorry to clog the board up with thanks, but it's a 'must do'!! Thank you Ted, for the Colclasure marriage index you sent to the board. I finally "gotroundtoit" today and input this wonderful info into my program. You are the BEST! Tricia Colcleasure Carothers
Hello All, I am searching for information on a John Lewis McGREW that was in Clay County around the Xena area about 1863. He had a son that born there in 1863 by the name of James Holland MCGREW. I just have a feeling that he was not directly connected to the McGREWs that we all know that lived in Clay Co. Maybe he was visiting and came up from MS. He did have another son born in 1867 in MS. This son was name Bluford Lacy MCGREW. On the death certificate of James Holland in 1937 it stated that his mother was Susan HUNT. I was told that the mother of these two boys was a Mary Whitehouse or Whitehead. This family eventually moved on to MO where John Lewis married his second wife in 1872. Bluford Lacy McGREW was my grandfather and died in 1925 when my daddy was only a year of so old. Any help would be appreciated. Pamalla McGrew Mann R. R. l, Box 137A New Harmony, IN 47631

Well here is a list of COLCLASURE's that got married in Illinois, prior to 1900 -- most of them in Clay Co. I'm sending to the entire list, because I know several people are tracking this name. Source of this information is a CD from the Illinois State Genealogy Society. The format below is 1) last name, first name; 2) last name, first name of marriage partner; 3) Volume; 4) Page; 5) County; 6) Date of Marriage. On a couple of lines there is another number between Page and county -- this is a license #.
