I have recently been given some old family documents and there are some items that pertain to family members living in the Pana and Taylorville areas of Christian County. One of the items is a hand-written copy of an obituary that was published in a local paper regarding the death of Major (George W.) Randall. He died on the '2 June 1876 at his residence three miles north of this city (Pana)'. The article goes on to state 'that he held the office of township assessor some years past'. I tried to find the local government offices on the internet but I had no luck. Could you help me out in locating where the old records of Pana are archived. I would like to find out if George W. Randall really was the township assessor and any other information that might be available about him. Also the wording of the obituary seem to indicate that the newspaper that printed it was located in Pana. Do you know the name of this paper and are there copies of their old editions on microfilm? There were five other hand-written obituaries regarding family deaths in and around Pana. Thank you for your help. Pam Davis
