    1. [ILCHRIST] Searching for William BURRIS 1800's
    2. EDWIN JONES
    3. Hello Christian Co. list. I'm researching the BURRIS family in the hope of tracing the Family line back to the BURRIS immigrant. I have traced the family back to William C. BURRIS who I believe was born 3/31/1840. William married Mary Jane CURTIS, who may have had another marriage. William & Mary Jane were marr. 9/2/1858 in Taylorsville, Il. It seems they had about 13 children. It might be some were the children of Nancy Jane from her first marr. William was a private in the cavalry in Company F 7'th reg. of Il. in the Civil War. William died 5/6/1923 in Miami, Ok. Would like a reply from anyone having data or suggestions of sources to search regarding this BURRIS line. Thanks, Ed Jones

    3. - Sally I have relatives in and around Christian County and am subscribed to the ILCHRIST-L list. I read all post's and usually have not found to much info. Today, I have a question, I am looking for info on Bertha Rule. She was the daughter of Ira A. Watkins and Laura Robinson. Ira A. Watkins and several of his childred are buried in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery. I can not find a grave for Laura Watkins. She was born 1854 and died 1895. I would think she would be buried there also. Could you send me a list of all the Watkins, Welsh, Rule burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. And if it isnt to much trouble would you please see if you have a Bertha Rule in any cemetery in Christian Co. The one I have are Ira A. Watkins 1851-1931 John C. Watkins 1871-1934, Myrtle Watkins 1875-1875, Charles T. Watkins 1875-1947, J. 3. Sally, I kept thinking the last name Ladd semmed familiar, on the 1870 census a Jane Ladd lived with John Cole&family worked as a servant in the home, she had a daughter named Emma who was 2 at the time. I have a feeling we are dealing with the same families. 3. Sally, I will ask Chuck if he can give me names of some of the other relatives. We both think C.T. Cole was John's brother. I was wondering where I could get a copy of the book with the names from Hunter cemetery. My husbands gggg-grandparents William and Mary Hunter are buried there also. 3. Sally, I have found out just recently that John Cole had other children with his second wife. I did not know they existed. He had William and Josephine and Alice by his first marriage to Elisabeth Hunter, after her death he married Eliza Foster they had 4 children John, George,Charles, J.B. On the 1880 census Eliza is a widow, J.B. is 6mo old. John Cole the son was 10 at that time. Chuck Cole told me that we have a lot of cousins in and around Mt.Auburn area. We could be talking about the same family line. Heidi At 03:29 PM 1/8/03 EST, you wrote: >I have a great Uncle named John Cole who was an attorney in CC. He was >raised by the Hedden's. 3. Sally, I have been in contact with Chuck Cole, he is a cousin. He went to Mount Auburn and they told him John Cole didn't have a stone, I am not sure what the cemetery in town is called. They told Chuck that John Cole was buried there. He was the postmaster, and tax collector in CC back then, and also had a store of some sort. I was hoping Elisabeth was buried in either Hunter cemetery or the one in town.
