Surnames: Sloman, Arscott, Rich, Lamb Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gg.2ADE/116 Message Board Post: I am trying to find a family tie between two John Sloman’s. One was John Sloman, born April 30, 1831, near the village of High Bighington, Devonshire, England. His father was James Sloman and his paternal grandfather was Zachariah Sloman. This John Sloman emigrated to the United States with his family when he was 10, and was later a farmer in Jersey County, Illinois, and Honey Point Township, Macoupin Co., Illinois. His wife was Sarah C. Lamb. The second John Sloman was born July 10, 1846, in Devon, England, and died Jan. 24, 1930, in Morrisonville, Christian Co., IL. His father was John Sloman, born Aug. 8, 1814, in Sampford Courtenay, Devon, England, and his mother was Elizabeth Arscott, born abt. 1813 in Sampford Courtenay. His wife was Mary Grace Rich, born June 10, 1848, in Devon, England, dying May 22, 1910, in Christian Co., IL. The second John and his wife Mary Grace emigrated to the United States after their marriage in Sept. 1869, and first moved to Jersey Co., IL, supposedly to farm land owned by Mary Grace’s uncle, Samuel Rich. The physical similarity between these two John Sloman’s is amazing and any help finding a tie between the two would be most appreciated.

    3. I'm new to the Christian County list just having found that these families moved here from Springfield, Sangamon Co. I'm hoping to find relations and help in locating more data about these families. William H. Leisster married Martha Jane Layman 25 July 1871 in Sangamon Co. They are listed as living in Stonington, Christian Co. in the 1880, 1920 and 1930 census'. Martha Jane's father, JESSE LAYMAN, was living with them in the 1880 census and not with his wife and other children at their hotel/boarding house in Springfield. I don't think Wm/Martha Leisster had any children. I'm looking for cemetery where William H. Leisster, Martha Jane Layman Leisster and her brother, Frank Layman are buried. Does anyone have access to a cemetery list for Christian Co. who can do a lookup for me, please? Can anyone help me find the death/cemetery listing for Jesse Layman? I don't have a death date for him. The IL death records say: William H. Leisster died 27 December 1922 in Stonington Martha Jane Layman Leisster (no record but she was born 1849) Frank Layman (or Samuel Frank Layman) died 22 November 1935 in Pana Thanks, Mary Louise Townsend Potomac Falls, VA
