The IL global search at the archives. <A HREF="http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/globsrch.html">Illinois State Archives Global Database Search</A> You can try ancestry.com, the free part of it. Sally Thank you so much. I find it so weird that my Grandparents aren't listed at all in the marriage Index for Ill. I found my Great-grandfather William Dean who married Angeline Morrison. Where else could I look for information. Is there an online source for a census 1874? maybe I could get kids names from there. Hi Mary, Did you know the Illinois State Marriages are indexed online to 1900? You need to check the county information to see how county completion. Here is the web address.... http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html Sincerely, Stephanie
There is a Robert G. married to Dora Murphy 3/15/1888 in Christian County. You might check out the IL Archives Marriage Records at: http://www.sos.state.il.us/GenealogyMWeb/marrsrch.html
I have a Robert Layman in the 1880 Census for Springfield, Sangamon County, IL to is married to "Eva", age 20, says she was born in IL but that doesn't necessarily have to be correct. Robert and his wife, Eva, are living with his parents (Jesse and Elizabeth Layman) at their boarding house. I have not been able to find the marriage date for them. However, Robert had a sister, Martha Jane (wife of Wm. Leisster) who lived in Taylorville. Their younger brother, Samuel "Frank" lived with Martha Jane after in the 1920's and 1930's until their deaths. Martha Jane died in Taylorville and Frank died in Pana. Maybe this Eva Blackburn is the wife of Robert Layman. Can anyone check the Christian County marriages for >1880. Mary Louise Townsend

I am having a very hard time finding info on my Dean relatives. Grandfather was James Riley Dean married Hazel Lindhorst but can't get back beyond this. Any suggestions? They were a very poor family I am told. I am not sure this plays any part in the record keeping f the era or not. If anyone has a link they could share it would be most appreciated. I did forward your message on to Kevin HOWLEY who manages the huge BLACKBURN family website soliciting any thoughts he may have. My theory is that she is the daughter of Samuel C. and Georgetta BLACKBURN of Iowa. Here are the clues that make me think that (all from the BLACKBURN database: While the database lists many "Eva's", only one has a dob "about 1868" which matches your 11 years old in 1880 fact. She was the first of 6 children (3 boys and 3 girls); could be that she was born in Missouri, though the database has her as born in Iowa. Her father, Samuel C. shows Ohio as his location of birth; mother from PA. The youngest child of Samuel C. and Georgetta was born in 1880; leading to a possible "split up" theory....that is, perhaps the mother died in childbirth and all the children were farmed out to relatives...since one family could not absorb all six, they were farmed out one or two per family (happened to my Illinois WILSONs, so not all that far fetched). "Poking around" the ALEXANDERs listed on the BLACKBURN database, I did find a Morrow County, Ohio mentioned. Is this the first you might have heard of Morrow County? It is listed next to an ALEXANDER wife surname of HOBSON; lots of HOBSONs from that part of Ohio. The 1880 census you quoted did not mention a county, but that is as close as I could get with about 8 minutes of research. The BLACKBURN website can be reviewed at the following address: <http://www.blackburn-tree.org/> Hope this helps! - Tom Wilson

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Adden Stolz Classification: Lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gg.2ADE/216 Message Board Post: Does anyone on the board/list have access to the 1870 census for Ricks township in Christian county that could do a lookup for me? I'm looking for the record for Oltmann and Mary (Stolz) Adden, ages 48 and 31 respectively. They should have at least two sons listed, Charles age 5 or 6, Otto age 1 or 2. There might possibly be another son Adde (Adam) age 12. Adde disappears from the family records after the 1860 census, and no one is quite sure when he died so he might or might not be there in 1870. At times, the Adden names has been listed as Adams, and Oltmann can appear at Altman. If they are listed as Adams, a clue that they are the correct people is that they will be perhaps the only Adams listed as being born in Germany. Thanks, Darren King
Thanks for the information Dave. I live in Southern, CA so I won't be going back any time soon. I was born in Pana though and went to school there. Hello Christian County Family, For the past few days I have been looking for an Eva Blackburn listed with one of my families in the 1870 census... 1870 Illinois, Christian County, Pana P. O. 89/81 Alexander, John 43 Butcher Ohio Elizabeth 39 PA George 20 Musician Ohio Blackburn, Eva 11 MO Russell, Jessie 29 IL I have no idea who she is or why she may be with the family. I am assuming Jessie is a hired hand since the Alexander's owned a smoke shop and had several people working for them. John Alexander married Elizabeth Ann Bond in McConnellsville, Ohio in 1848. I cannot find any Bond's that may be connected to the Blackburn's. I know none of my Alexander's married Blackburn's or that any extended family did. I cannot find John and Elizabeth Alexander in the 1880 census. I know that the two John's buried in Oak Hill Cemetery are not him. I have both their death records. I have all my other Alexander's that are buried in Pana Mound and Coal Creek. They are not with them. I am hoping Eva Blackburn is the link. I figured by the 1880 census Eva Blackburn in married and she did not marry in Illinois by the index. Any help with this mystery would be truly appreciated. Sincerely, Stephanie
