GARY I have their form right here and it says that they are open March Sat 11am to 4pm and it changes in April Wed. to Sat and Sun hours 11am to 4pm and Sun 1pm to 4pm. 217-824-6922 Visitors are welcome to the Pence Building located on the Christian County Historical grounds located at Junctions of Rt 29 & 48 on the east edge of Taylorville. Hello all, I just joined this list to broaden my never ending family searches. The first family that I am looking for is: Absolom (Absolum) Johnson who was born in 1825 in Madison county Kentucky. He migrated through Indiana and ended up in Taylorville, Christian Co. He arrived in Taylorville between 1857 & 1859. He was married to Permelia Jane Jones born 1828 in Kentucky and died Jan 1, 1866 in Taylorville, Christian Co, IL. Children: James D, 1849 Evaline, 1851 Joseph, 1852 Mary Ann, 1856 Melvina E, 1859 Sarah Ann, 1862 After Permelia died he married Mary Finley, moved to MO and had Charles & Eliza. Mary Finley was widowed and she had at least one child named Tom. If any of these names sound familiar to you, please contact me. thanks, Julie

The AR census states that Garland Henry Johnson was born in IL. I'm hoping that I'm correct in assuming that Christian county was his home. Garland was a circuit preacher for the baptist church. He was reported to have lived in Cincinnati OH, IN, IL, AR and Indian Territory (OK). Here is what I know: Garland Henry Johnson born 1830, died 1873 married to Mary_________ Dec 19, 1851 Children: J.A. 1853 Nancy E, 1855 William M, 1858 John W, 1860 James, 1865 Mary died August 21, 1867. I wish that I knew her last name, but I do not. When she died these kids did not go with Garland to his new home in AR. I don't know what became of them or who they went to live with. Has anyone access to the 1870 census for this county to see if there are a group of Johnson kids living with relatives? Garland then re-married a woman named Margaret in 1868 who died shortly thereafter. On October 28, 1869 Garland then married a woman named (Maud) Elisabeth Wolf born 1849. They must have then moved straight to AR because their first child was born in 1870 in AR. I can not find record of any of these marriages in the statewide Illinois marriage database.
