THANKS for catching that error on my part. Yes its 217 for sure. THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway.... [email protected] Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
There is another Oak Hill Cemetery . It is located in Rochester, IL which is in Sangamon Co. but very close to the Christian County border and to Edinburg. My family was from Edinburg and they are buried in that cemetery. The directions that I have is that you go through Buckhart on Main Street and continue on that road until you hit mile marker 11 and turn right. The cemetery is on the right on the hill. The cemetery is Oak Hill Cemetery of Cooper (also called Buckhart Cemetery). The cemetery is listed in the book the Cemeteries of Auburn and Cooper Twp. of Sangamon Co., IL. Hope this helps. Mary MacMartin
The Area Code is 217 not 271 > Christian Co IL Genealogy Society > PO Box 28 > or PO BOx 174 > Taylorville IL 62568 > > phone: 271-824-6922 > > LOL > > > THANKS.....:-)* > Sally Hathaway.... > [email protected] > Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
You might check with the local historical or genealogical society. Also, I have found plot maps at the village halls or town libraries sometimes. Good luck, Juli Claussen
I am wondering if anyone knows where I might find a plot diagram of the Harris Cemetery. It was suggested to me that the bank might have one. According to my grandmother, her grandfather Tavner Waller and his youngest daughter Isabelle were buried in the Harris Cemetery. She said that there were no markers. I know that there were two Harris cemeteries. He died about 1857 and they were living in May Twp. at the time. Thanks lots.
I just received a death certificate on a family member who died in 1903 and it states that she was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Edinburg, Illinois. Could someone please tell me where that cemetery is at. Sharon
HI SHARON I haven't heard of that one being in Edinburg, but it is in Taylorville, Christian Co IL. I have that book if you need a look up in it. THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway.... [email protected] Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
HI Jane I put the wrong zip code on the first one, it should be 62568. THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway.... [email protected] Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
HI JANE I jsut found the two Harris's cemeteries both within a couple miles of each other in May Twp. There is no plots on them thou. The Society does sell the cemetery book with Harris cemetery in it thou. You should contact them then. Christian Co IL Genealogy Society PO Box 28 or PO BOx 174 Taylorville IL 62568 phone: 271-824-6922 LOL THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway.... [email protected] Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
HI JANE You might also want to try the Christian Co Genealogical & Historical Society for the spec's on the cemeteries. They are at PO Box 174, Taylorville, IL. 52568. They do have at least one Harris cemertey listed, so they may be able to help you out. THANKS.....:-)* Sally Hathaway.... [email protected] Owner...ILROUTE66 LIST
I am researching my own surname, KELLUM and have hit a wall with my ancestor, Amander Kellam, born in Vermont about Feb 1807 died 20 Jul 1866, Rosamond, Christian Co IL.. His wife was Jerusha born in 1805 CT. Children:Orrin Albert born 1830 Oswego Co NY, Ellen born 1832 NY, Lorna born 1835 VT, William born 1838 VT, Henry born 1840 VT (my line), Celia born 1842 VT, Flavius Eli born 1847 VT. Amander is found in Oswego Co NY in 1830, Washington Co VT 1840, Kendall Co IL 1850, Grundy Co IL 1860, and Christian Co IL 1866 when he died. There was a Thankful Kellam born 1785 CT (mother, aunt??) living with his family in Big Grove, Kendall Co IL in 1850. The reason I am writing is that I am researching every line of Killam/Kellam/Kilham etc in the U.S. and hopefully before I reach the age of 100 I will locate the family to connect my Amander Kellam to.
Some of the Wayne & Clay Co, IL early settlers came from Orange Co, Indiana. My maternal great-grandmother Rose Ann LEATHERS's ancestors came from Orange Co, Indiana to Wayne Co, IL. The Macon Co, IL WARD's were related to my maternal 2nd great-grandmother Mary Ann FRAZEE's 1st husband John Barber PERDEU. I believe his mother was a WARD. Have you tried that Macon, Fayette, Wayne or Clay Co, IL areas for your related or allied line surnames? WARD families were in Macon, Fayette, Clay and Wayne Co, IL as well as Christian Co, IL also. My direct surname ancestry line is in the HIMES line link of our homepage. http://members.truepath.com/beverly/index.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 15, 2000 5:26 AM Subject: [ILCHRIST] John H. To my surprise, another GRIGSBY researcher informed me that my ggg-grandfather John H. GRIGSBY, b. ca. 1812, Paoli, Orange Co., IN, died in Owaneco, Christian Co., IL. John's daughter Mary Jane GRIGSBY WARD (1852 - 1917), my gg-grandmother, lived in Owaneco and is buried in the Millersville Cemetery. John and his family lived in Sullivan, Sullivan Co., IN, at the time Mary Jane married and moved to Owaneco. Does anyone have any record of John H. GRIGSBY living or dying in Owaneco, Christian Co., IL? It has always been a mystery to me how a man from Owaneco came to marry a girl from Indiana. I have never been able to prove my theory that perhaps either my Owaneco WARD/GRIFFITH family had relatives that they would have visited in Sullivan Co., IN, or my Sullivan Co., IN, GRIGSBY/MCKINNEY/MCGREW/KIRKHAM family had relatives that they would have visited in Owaneco. Does anyone have any ideas on this subject? I don't think the Civil War was a factor as Mary Jane's husband John H. WARD was too young to have participated in the Civil War. The WARD family lived in Noble Co., OH, before the Civil War, spent the duration of the war in Ft. Wayne, IN, then continued by train to IL after the war.
