i was there this summer and they charged $7.00. they were very sticky about following what i was told was the law about obtaining records. the birth had to have been over a hundred years ago or you had to show proof. death was no problem and marriage was no problem.

The last time I got one it was $5.00 but that was several years ago it probably has gone up by now. Good Luck PW Root
Does anyone know how much Christian County charges for death certificates at the County Courthouse? I wanted to get a death certificate for my great-grandmother via mail, but the only information I can find is on marriage certificates. Thanks! Sheri

--part1_32.95f0dd5.26da068c_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I received the following message from a young girl who is doing a genealogy project for school. A lot of her facts are wrong. For instance, I do not show that John Henry CEARLOCK and Thersy RHODES had children named Wilson or Grace Ann. As shown below, my records do show that Thersy's first husband's surname was WILSON, but I do not show a child named Grace for that marriage either. Can anyone help this young lady? John Henry CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (July 1830/31 - 9 Jul 1900) was born and died in Fayette Co., IL. He and his family also lived in Christian Co., IL. Jan Palmer: In looking through my Grove City cemetery inscription book I do not find any BLOXAM, SPENCER, or FRANK families. There are two FRAKES listing, otherwise not even close spellings of the names you are looking for. I visited the Grove City cemetery in July while on a visit from OR to IL for family reunions and was surprised that all that is left of Grove City is the cemetery and about four houses. I drove past the cemetery, as I was looking for the church which used to stand beside it. But realized my error and soon located the beautifully kept cemetery where several of my ancestors are buried. My greatgrandfather, Pleasant Venters was the barber in Grove City until about 1922. Grove Cemetery is exactly 3/10 of a mile west of County Highway 22. It is clearly visible from Highway 22 as it sits on a gentle slope in this otherwise flat prairie. When there is corn planted around the cemetery, as is this year, it is somewhat less visible from the Highway. In the winter, or when there are soybeans planted around the cemetery, you can't miss it. It is a well-kept cemetery. There is a printed transcription of this cemetery at the Christian County Genealogical Society housed at the Christian County Historical Society.
