Hi Folks, In the Bio for George W. M. Pittman on the Champaign co. GenWeb site, it states that he was born in 1847. Later it states that he entered Illinois Wesleyan University in the fall of 1861 which would make him just 14 years old which seems a little young to me (though I am employing a 20th/21st cent. mindset.) My question is, would 14 be a reasonable age for a person in that time period to enter college? To add to this quandry, I found a George W. Pittman in the 1910 census who was listed as age 69 which would be a birth year of about 1841. Yet that would make him about 20 upon entering Ill. Wesleyan which seems a tad old. Any ideas or comments would be most appreciated. Scott Pittman rsprgv@aol.com
