    3. Hello Fellow Champaign County Researchers, I live on the West Coast, so going to Illinois is on the "impossible" list for right now-------perhaps you can help me with some of the following surnames. All of the following came to Champaign County from 1850-1870 and lived and died there: I have BROWN, PAYTON, ROSS, EARLEY, WRIGHT, COOK, COLLISON, PITTS, HOLMES, PRILEY/PLILEY, PLUE, TILGHMAN, LONGSHORE, ZORGER, HARNIT-------just named a few for starters. Rev.John H. Payton came from Indiana and settled in Ludlow, often preaching at the local Methodist Episcopal church. He married Temperance Dragoo in Delaware County, Indiana. They had several children one being Rebecca Emeline Payton who married Courtland Brown. Courtland was the son of Isaac J. Brown and Margaret Coffin/Coffing. Courtland had a brother by the name of William Taylor Brown who married Laura Stewart. Courtland at times was a school teacher and he also was the "clerk" for the 1880 census of Harwood, Champaign County, IL census Courtland Brown and Rebecca, known as "Emma" had several children with one surviving childhood---my grandfather: Lloyd Logan Brown. He married Golda/Goldie Pitts, the daughter of Orren Pitts and Rose Earley. Rose was the daughter of John Earley and Alice Holmes. Alice was the daughter of Cyrus Holmes and Calista Bennett, another early Champaign County pioneer family. They raised a large family in Champaign County. Orren was the son of Esther Ross and Thomas Pitts. Thomas was the son of Henry Pitts and Margaret Wright who came to McLean County, IL in 1830 and then moved on to Champaign County. Margaret was the sister of William Garrison Wright of McLean and DeWitt Counties. Orren and Rose had Goldie/Golda Pitts who married Lloyd Brown( as previously mention). He was a barber in Gifford in the very early 1900's. Lloyd and Goldie had 4 children from 1916-1922. The father died in 1921 and the mother in early 1923. The children were adopted by Fred Priley and his wife Nettie Plue Priley. The Priley's were friends of Goldie Pitts Brown. John Ross came from Wetzel County, West Virginia. He married Marinda Ullom Butcher (a widow) and they lived in Compromise and Gifford. They had four daughters: Priscilla, Henrietta, Savannah and Esther. John married 2nd: Mary Dickerson. The four daughters of John and Marinda married men by the name of Isaiah Zorger, Charles Cook, Alfred Collison and of course--Thomas PItts. .ANY INFORMATION ON THESE PEOPLE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I DO HAVE EXTENSIVE DATA ON MOST OF THEM, BUT AM LOOKING FOR THE "HUMAN" HISTORY OF THEIR LIVES. IN OTHER WORDS, MORE THAN A DATE AND A PLACE, BUT A HISTORY, A TOMBSTONE, NEED PICTURES, ETC. THANKS SO MUCH. JUST WANTED TO RUN BY ALL OF YOU A FEW OF MY NAMES TO SEE IF I CAN LINK UP WITH ANYONE. Deanna
