I have searched in vain for information on my gggrandfather, Rankin Hays, who was shown on the 1860 census for Champaign county, and then disappears--I rec'd a note from Ms. Snyder that showed information which came from a book on Champaign co. that said his wife died in 1860 and that he died in 1864, but no amount of searching has found where they died and where they are buried. Rankin had a sister, Sarah Hays Blackmore, who is said to be buried along side her son in the Old Bliss cemetery, but I don't find him there--His son, John C. Hays and brother, Benjamin Hays were both land owners in Champaign co. and possibly Vermillion county. In the census, it shows Rankin, wife, Hannah, 2 daughters and 3 farm hands, but we don't find him listed as a land owner there either--The ladies at the Urbana Library have been most helpful, but found nothing--does anyone have any idea where I might go to find a death listed for either Hannah, or Rankin Hays??
