Maybe that's just an error in the listing; there is a birth registry also from about 1878 on, that gives way to birth certificates (1910? the law changed around then). Again, the records are very spotty: in my great-grandfather's family of some twelve children, only one apparently selected at random appears in the birth records (likewise for his siblings' families). Also check newspapers for rather cryptic birth notices. In any event the LDS FHL has this registry, and since the county clerk has turned over most of these ancient records to the Urbana Library, which contains the official Champaign Co archive, they should have the registry and film as well.
