Greetings! I am new to this list and was wondering how far back do the Illinois vital records go? I am seeking a death record for a Heinrich Wilhelm KOOPMANN/KOOPMAN/KOPMAN/KOPMANN. According to the information I have he died in Champaign Co 19 May 1889 at the age of 71. Heinrich was Lutheran minister. He went from Peoria to Golden to Champaign Co near Gifford(?). He quit preaching and went into farming. If nothing else, perhaps someone could recommend a newspaper that might possibly (hopefully) have a death notice/obit. Thank You! Death Records go back to 1878. You would need to contact the Illinois Regional Archives Depository, Williams Hall, Illinois State University, Campus Box 5500, Normal, IL 61790-5500 I've found they have a very quick turnaround. I recently requested a marriage record and had a copy of the marriage license in about a week. You'll need to provide any information you know just as you have here. They only charge for photocopies. The first five are $1.00 and $.10 each after that. You don't have to pay until they respond to your query and send you your copies (if available). They'll let you know the charges. Celia PS: they don't do email. >Greetings! > >I am new to this list and was wondering how far back do the Illinois >vital records go? > >I am seeking a death record for a Heinrich Wilhelm >KOOPMANN/KOOPMAN/KOPMAN/KOPMANN. >According to the information I have he died in Champaign Co 19 May >1889 at the age of >71. >Heinrich was Lutheran minister.
