USGS web site will not show a cemetery if is smaller then 50 foot squared. This misses a lot of small cemeteries. Broadlands is in Ayers Township and the Lutheran cemetery is referred to as Ayers Lutheran or Immanuel Luthern. There are no known cemeteries in Raymond township. You can also go to the following web site: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form for the US Geological Service's mapping service of the US Government. If you don't know the name, choose the state - Illinois - and click on county and then choose Champaign. For feature type, choose 'Cemetery' and 'Send the Query.' This will return a list of all cemeteries in Champaign County. Click on a name and you have map options. Pretty neat site. I don't find any cemeteries for Raymond Township here either. Hello, I Have been collecting civil war letters and documents for the last few years from the 48th Illinois but lately I have found my self collecting more and more Champaign county items. I have a strong interest in Urbana paper items from before 1865 such as, Family letters, Documents, autographs or newspapers from the Urbana Union. My strongest interest is stampless letters and documents from before 1846 and a autograph of the first mayor Archa Campbell from 1855. If you have any of these items and you would be interested in selling them please let me know. Best Regards Don Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
Donald, Would the name Daniel GARDINER come to mind? He was the 2nd mayor of Champaign, IL, was a board member of the Univ. of Ill. in 1867 and was the proprietor of Daniel GARDINER & Co. Bank, which prospered after the closing of the Cattle Bank. Daniel GARDINER is one of my research topics and a relative. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Might I suggest you contact the Jewell Baptist College in MO. They have an incredible amount of information on their preachers, churches, so they may even have Baptist members in the archives. Diane Mahoney
Hi All, I am brand new to this list, so please forgive me if I make any newbie blunders here. I've been researching one part of my mother's family very intensely of late. There is one part of one family that remains an enigma to me. It is the family of David and Sarah LEVIN who were originally from Eastern Europe. They immigrated to the USA separately, then met, married, and raised a family in the Chicago, IL, area at the very beginning of the 20th century. The youngest of their children appears to be Seymour LEVIN (born about 1916, Chicago, IL). All I know about this man is that he married a woman whose given name was Ilsa. I believe that they had one child, Judy LEVIN. All that I know about Judy is that she was a journalist. Not much to go on. Yesterday, a distant cousin I found told me that he believes that Judy had died within the past 5 years. So, naturally, I went to the SSDI listings to see what I could find. What I found was one listing there that seems to match what little I know of Judy. The listing reads: JUDY LEVIN, born: 26 Jun 1941 died: 11 Jun 1997 Last Residence: 61821 (Champaign, Champaign, IL) SSN: 334-42-3566 I know that that's not much to go on, but it is a start. So, is there some kind soul out there who has access to the obits and death notices from a Champaign newspaper and would please look up whatever notice there might have been for this woman for me? If she is who I think she is, I'm hoping that there will be some information that would assist me in finding a living member of the family of David and Sarah LEVIN (assuming that at least one of their children produced a child who I can connect with now). Thus far, every lead I've tracked down for this family group has quite literally come to a dead end. Thanks for your kind attention. I hope that someone can and will lend a helping hand. Dear List members, We have now completed the Illinois counties family history links on our website, except for further updates as we receive more church records, which is an ongoing task. We are now preparing to enter some information for counties in Iowa, and Missouri, and have already entered a few counties for Wisconsin. We have the research well underway for Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, but in Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana, we have a great deal more original research work to do, and will appreciate help from anyone who knows of the existence of Primitive Baptist church records or membership lists for those states. We have made enough revision and addition to our site, to warrant giving you the URL addresses again, in case you wish to check our site again, or see it for the first time. We encourage you to write on the guest books which are at the bottom of two or three of our webpages. Our main homepage (with links to research completed and in progress for several states): http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Or, for Illinois counties, go directly to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist.html Best wishes, Robert Webb The Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois HAPPY 4th of JULY I will now go ring the bell on our church ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Thanks Jim and Bob for your response. I did try the News Gazette site and it was not listed. Again thanks for your help. Sharon
Pat: You can find it simply by going to www.rootsweb.com. Once there, I just typed in Robert Rowney and in the results you'll see the Obit Daily Times listing his name. I think you can also go directly to it by finding it's hyperlink on the main page for RootsWeb. What I sent you is all that the Daily Times provided. The volunteers do not provide transcripts of the obits unless the person requesting them is also a volunteer with the Daily Times. Their service simply informs you of the existence of an obit and then you need to track it down either by calling the paper, writing or perhaps sending for microfilm. I would suggest trying to get in contact with the paper. I searched quickly on the web and didn't find a web site for them. Maybe directory assistance can help you. Hope this helps. I am looking for someone who could possibly get me a copy of an obituary for a Robert Lee Rowney and a corresponding news article concerning the traffic accident which he died in. Robert died in Carle Foundation Hospital on May 24, 2001. Thank you. sharon1@midwest.net
Hello Sharon, Try the following link; it maybe helpful.
