    3. Karen, I am sorry that I don't have a copy of the 1870 Census, but I am hoping you could do me a favor. I ordered the 1860 Champaign Co. Census on microfilm and the page I needed was so light I could not read it. If you don't mind could you please check your copy for: Benjamin Springer St. Joseph Township page 514 line 3? I would appreciate any information that is listed. Thank you for your time and your help. 1. [ILCHAMPA-L] Criminal Hill
    2. Donald aikman
    3. Hello, Would there be anyone on this list that might have pictures of what was or is known as "Criminal hill" from 1905 to the 1930's? I'm looking for pictures of the 3 block area just north of the big four shops in urbana. The street that is University Ave today was known as Somers from 1905 to I believe about 1910 then it changed to park street and then again sometime around 1932 to University ave. If you have any old pictures with these street names on them I would love to see them. Best regards DonGet more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com

    3. I asked Vermilion Co. webmaster about getting a township map up. As of yet, no one has. Also from comments, I need to put the surrounding counties on the map and will do so when I get time. Cemeteries in Champaign County - if they are not on line and I have been putting some on as time permits - most of them have been transcribe by the DAR in the early 1970's. Those hand typed and/or handwritten transcriptions are available from the Champaign Co. Historical Archives, 201 S. Race St., Urbana, Il 61801. You will have to include a SASE and ask them to check the indexes. There is a web searchable database that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't but has no explanation written for it because of politics in the Archives. But if you can get the searchable database to work and want more information, you will have to write the Archives or possibly phone them for a simply look-up. I lost the web site when my computer crashed and I had to rebuild it. Does anyone out there, still have it bookmarked. ---------------- Joan Lund j-lund@uiuc.edu

    2. Hi, I also have a Long, William T. with very little info on him. He was born in Champaign Co. 26 June 1844 and died in Vermilion Co. 26 Feb. 1875, but buried in the Old Dunkard Cem. near Homer in Champaign Co. He married first Helon L. Clark 13 Dec. 1868 and second to S. Ella Butts 22 Oct 1874 in Vermillion Co. There were children of both marriages. I don't know his parents, but would like to. Let me know if any of this fits your ancestral line. Zoe Chandik at vehummer@aol.com

    2. TAYLORDK
    3. I have searched in vain for information on my gggrandfather, Rankin Hays, who was shown on the 1860 census for Champaign county, and then disappears--I rec'd a note from Ms. Snyder that showed information which came from a book on Champaign co. that said his wife died in 1860 and that he died in 1864, but no amount of searching has found where they died and where they are buried. Rankin had a sister, Sarah Hays Blackmore, who is said to be buried along side her son in the Old Bliss cemetery, but I don't find him there--His son, John C. Hays and brother, Benjamin Hays were both land owners in Champaign co. and possibly Vermillion county. In the census, it shows Rankin, wife, Hannah, 2 daughters and 3 farm hands, but we don't find him listed as a land owner there either--The ladies at the Urbana Library have been most helpful, but found nothing--does anyone have any idea where I might go to find a death listed for either Hannah, or Rankin Hays?? These are really my stone wall people and would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you, Shirley taylordk@ix.netcom.com
