    1. [ILCHAMPA-L] Village of Philo
    2. When was the village of Philo established (or recognized)? Some 1869-70 newspapers I read recently seemed to imply that the village was quite new then -- was it established after the Civil War? An ancestor of mine owned a lot in Philo village (which was traded around during his lifetime between him and his children). I can't figure out he came to own it in the first place, tho. Is there any information on the earliest laying out of Philo and the disposition of the town lots?

    2. Jim, Sorry, I don't have any additional information. My grandfather Arthur Norman was one of 12 children and may have been in this County for a short period of time prior to 1928. I have 0 information on his family. He's been a brick wall for many years. Pj On 19 Aug 2001, at 20:03, Jim Mulligan wrote: > PJ, > > Do you have any additional information? 1. [ILCHAMPA-L] John Gilliland, b. abt 1787 in VA
    2. Ok Gilliland researchers, I really need your help! I have finally confirmed that Enoch Gilliland b. 1832 OH was the father of Graham b. 1860. This 1870 Champaign Co. Census confirmed his.  Now  . . . . who was Enoch's father???  I think Enoch died before the 1880 census.  His wife, Elizabeth Thomas was a widow in 1880.  They were in Sedgwick co. Kansas. I think his parents were John Gilliland and Elizabeth Thomas (I know, what a coincidence of names!), but I need proof. But, John had so many children it's possible John could be his grandfather.  I just don't know. Is anyone following this line?  I could really use some help! Thanks! Karen

    3. Karen, WOW! That is great. I am very glad I could help. I ordered the microfilm from the LDS library. I can only go to the library on Wednesday's. I can order you a copy next week when I go, but sometimes it takes weeks for the copies to come in the mail. If you can wait that long I will be happy to order you a copy. 3. Karen, Here is the information on Enoch Gilliland. Enumerated: 5 day of August 1870 Gilliland, Enoch 38 M W Carpenter Ohio Elizabeth 38 F W Keeping House Ohio Graham 10 MW IL Madison 8 MW IL Otto 7or8/12 MW IL Jan-If born within the year-Month The ages were hard to read, but I believe they are correct. I was wondering if you have a G. W. Gilliland who married Philitte Morgan on your list. I also have her name as Philetta Victoria Adams. Hope this helps. 2. Karen Eliminate everything after .org/ from the address. You may have to eliminate the / also. If that does not work go to search for Urbana Free Library. Then search for Gilliland. Hope that works. Windy
