Hi Jan, Apparently you are not a subscriber to the Champaign County mail list (at least not with the compuserve address), so I am redirecting your message to the list and cc'ing you. All the best, Celia Does anyone know which church would have the cemetery records for St. Joseph Cemetery located in Sadorus Township, between Sadorus and Ivesdale? The headstones I'm interested in have only years of birth and death for Charles, Oscar and Raymond Cain (all three died between 1918 and 1921) and I'm looking for exact dates. Thanks. Jan
It was named for the family, both Henry and his first son William who are my ancestors.
Pat, Thanks for responding. No, none of the surnames sound familiar. John LOWRY and Margaret (nee NOLAN) LOWRY emigrated with their several sons to Tolono in about 1865 from County Tipperary, Ireland. John died on 11/5/1874 in Tolono. Margaret died in Tolono on 2/24/1887. Their son, William M. LOWRY, was married to Margaret CARRIGAN on 1/7/1874 at St. Patrick's Church in Tolono. He died in 1932. His wife, Margaret, died in 1922. Their son, Thomas Michael LOWRY, was born in Champaign County on 12/21/1879. Any leads? Thanks! Kevin
What are you looking for? All my ancestors lived in Illinois during those years but scattered....Lowry is the name of my gggggrandmother who married Daniel Titus in Crawford, Pennsylvania. It is possible that they came to Champaign County at the same time as Mary and Henry Sadorus.
Was Sadorus,IL named after Henry Sadorus,IL? Anyone with information on families living in Tolono, Illinois, from about 1865-1900? Thanks! Kevin

Greetings from Colorado, I am inquiring a lookup for the Grandfather whom I have never met. I believe he was in the area of Champaign, Illinois at the time of his death. I know he was married at the time to Hazel Marie Maley, I can narrow a date down to 1930-1936. As my father was only one or two when his father passed away. This has been an extremely hard search, as I believe it is the name Williams? I cannot find him listed on the SS death index......or at least I am not sure which one could be him. Any information would be most appreciated. Debbie (Colorado)
Hi Celia, I would like to have a scan of the map. Thank you for your kindness and help. I appreciate it. Jane
Hi Jane, I purchased the book from the Archives of the Urbana Free Library. It was a reprint of the plat maps for the three dates. Apparently, they no longer have the book available. I would be glad to scan the portion of the page which shows the cemetery and send it to you? Sorry, I don't know if it's been inventoried, but the Urbana Free Library would have that information. Let me know about the scan, Celia >Dear Celia, > >Thank you so much for the information. The older Compromise Cemetery is >really ringing bells for me. Dear Celia, Thank you so much for the information. The older Compromise Cemetery is really ringing bells for me. Can you tell me where to write for a copy of the plat map...the Library or the Historical Society? Also, do you know if this cemetery has been inventoried? Thanks again, Jane
Hi Jane, I find a cemetery referenced on the "Historical Map of Champaign County," Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, with the note, "Compromise Cemetery (old part used since the 1850s)". I also find this cemetery (without a name) on the 1893 Compromise Township plat map in the lower right-hand corner of section 7. It's located southwest of Penfield, about 1.80 miles south of State Highway 119 on 2500E. On the 1913 Compromise Township plat map, the above cemetery again appears along with another one - just southeast of Penfield about 1/4 mile. On the 1929 plat map, both of the above cemeteries still appear. These are the only two cemeteries I find around Penfield in Compromise Township. On the 1929 plat map for Kerr Township, just north of Compromise and Penfield, I find another cemetery that would be located about 5 miles north of Penfield in section 16 of Kerr Township on the east side of 2700E. There's also another one about 1/2 mile SE of the previous one - in section 21 on the south side of 3300N. Both of these show up on the 1913 and 1929 plat maps, but only the second one (on 3300N) shows up on the 1893 plat map. Neither of these cemeteries show up on the "Historical Map..." Hope this helps! Hi Debbie in CO, I had to think a moment but the Maley name kept sounding familiar. I have been researching my Pittman family in Piatt co. In the process I found a G. W. M. Pittman from Mahomet, Champaign, IL (about 2 miles or so from the Piatt co., IL Pittmans). Interestingly, I have a record of a George Washington MALEY Pittman graduating with one of my ggg(?dont know the number) uncles, Johnson Pittman. On the Champaign IL GenWeb page in the biography section, search under "P" for Pittman and you will find 2 bios. Check out the one for G.W.M. Pittman and see if there may be a connection. If so, Cecil Snyder was so kind as to send a later bio of that family. We may have a connection. I'm not directly related to that Pittman line, but there are too many coincidences concerning when they and my family came to IL and where they settled. Please feel free to e-mail me if you think that we have something. Realize that it is the end of summer and I'm finally going to take a vacation, so it may be a few days before I respond. Sincerely, Scott Pittman rsprgv@aol.com
Hi Debbie from CO Unless there was an old settlement in Champaign co. by that name, Downers Grove is a suburb of Chicago. I'm not sure if it is in Cook co or DuPage co. or one of the other surrounding counties. Unfortunately I can't find my Chicagoland map at the moment (packed away somewhere) but I imagine if you can find a DuPage co. list that someone will know. Don't try a Cook co. list. Chicagoans don't know anything outside of the city limits ;-) Scott
No, Champaign is in Central Illinois while Downers Grove is a suburb of Chicago.
Pat, I'm redirecting your message to the list as it bounced to me listed as "not a subscriber." Could you be subscribed under a different email address?
