    1. Re: [ILCHAMPA-L] Glasscock
    2. This is to Mary Margaret Cailey Smith I am also researching the Glasscock name. Do you know Henry's parents names? My g.g.g. grandparents were Thomas and Catherine McIntyre Glasscock. Catherine was also known as Kate Glassco and is buried in the Mt Hope Cem. in Urbana, Illinois. If Henry is connected to this line of Glasscock's I can give you quite a bit of info. on them. There was another line of Glasscock's in Champaign Co. and there is probably info. on them at the Urbana Free Library. You can call, write or go there in person, the people that work there are very helpful. You may contact me at jodi163@aol.com

    3. Seeking information re: G-Grandmother Cecilia Glasscock-Cailey's family. Cecilia b. 1/21/1870( Happy 131st birthday, Great Grandma!) d. 3/6/1947; daughter of Henry and Addie Glasscock. Cecilia and Grandfather lived in Tolono where Grandpa John Fred was the Western Union operator. I have 2 photographs of Great Grandma Cecilia but absolutely no information other birth, marriage and death dates. From the photo's, I know that any woman who could pick out wear such flamboyant hats must have had a story or two about her life. Unfortunately, everyone in my family who might remember her has gone on to the place where everyone can wear hats successfully! Any information about the Glasscocks is gratefully appreciated. 2. Looking for information about an Mrs. Elizabeth A. Burlingame. Maybe was married to J. A. Burlingame. (name of Mrs. from Warranty Deed in 1872) She married John Dundon before 1872. 2. Hi Janelle: Do you have anything on a Mary White that married Elmer C. Keefer? She was born in Farmer City 1876 and died in Peoria in 1949 (both Farmer City and Peoria are pretty close to Champaign and her brother, William lived in Champaign). Her parents were Herbert and Elizabeth. They had one daughter that I know of, Mildred J. and she married Alfred Nau. They had one son that I know of Clayton. Their children that lived to adulthood include Jessie May (my grandmother), Vinnie Irene, Aleida Marie, and Camilla Maria. William was born in 1860 and died in 1939. He had many brothers and sisters but the only ones that remained in the area were Elmer C. (married Mary White) and Mamie (married Frank Zillich). Other children include: Fannie, Laura, Lettie, Eva, Frank, and Alta. I have more info if anyone is interested. Thanks -- Bob

Ancestry.com is offering free access to all of its databases through December 21. This is your chance to see why more than 270,000 researchers have chosen to subscribe to Ancestry.com in their quest to discover their family's history. Included in the offer is access to the images of original census records that Ancestry.com recently began posting. These top-quality images represent a more true-to-life depiction of the records and are in most cases better than the original in readability. Ancestry.com's Images Online are scanned in 256 shades of gray to allow for variations in tone, as opposed to the less expensive method of bi-tonal technologies used by competitors. The entire set of U.S. Federal Censuses is expected to be online by spring 2001. A year's access to these images will only cost current Ancestry.com members an additional $39.95, as opposed to competitive offerings that in recent interviews quoted impending subscription costs at as much as $99! In other words, for $99.90 ($59.95 regular subscription + $39.95 Images Online subscription)--which is the price competitors are charging for census only--Ancestry.com members will get access to the census Images Online in better form, plus access to all of Ancestry.com's other offerings. These offerings include such landmark databases as the "PERiodical Source Index (PERSI)," the Biography and Genealogical Master Index (BGMI), the American Genealogical- Biographical Index (AGBI), the 1890 Census Reconstruction Project, the Civil War Research Database, and Slave Narratives, just to name a few. But that's not all. Ancestry.com has been adding databases at a record-breaking pace and is on target to have more than 1 BILLION records online by the end of the year. Recent additions include: --- "The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England, 1620-33" (see a sample entry at: http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/2071.asp) --- The New York City police census of 1890 --- 1910 Miracode indexes for Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Virginia --- Statewide vital records indexes for a growing number of states --- New York's naturalization petition index of 1907-24 --- Iowa cemeteries --- And much more! Now for a limited time, new members of Ancestry.com will get $10 off the price of an annual data subscription, giving you a year's access to the No. 1 genealogical site on the Internet for only $49.95. And as an added bonus, we'll include a FREE Ancestry Reference Library CD-ROM (a $49.95 value itself!), which includes 15 genealogy reference books to help you research like a pro! 1. Re: [ILCHAMPA-L] Dr. Billy Smith
    2. Yes, I knew him. I was a small child (8 or 9) at the time my Grandmother and Aunt went to him for treatment. My Aunt had polio as a teenager (16) about 1925. She was paralyzed from the waist down throughout her life. She visited DR Smith (about 1939 or 40) and stayed overnight in one of the facility's upstairs rooms. She thought he was wonderful, her belief in him made her feel better. She passed away at the age of 87, a remarkable age for a person that had been afflicted with polio. The house that he practiced in, was amazing, Had an open stairwell etc. Is the house still there? In fact I remember that he treated me for hayfever.

    2. I am looking for stories about my great- grandfather, Dr. Billy Smith, who lived in St. Elmo, Illinois and was a nationally known faith healer in the first half of the 1900's. If any one has any memories of this person or may know of some one to contact about him , I would greatly appreciate it. I am doing a special chapter just on him in my family history. Smith) probably born 1860-1880, alive in 1925 Her children: Richard and LeRoy SMITH and Edith SMITH BURR of Champaign, Urbana, & Urbana RFD in 1925. My guess is these 3 were born 1890-1910. Laura Smith's mother Margaret L HELM VAN MATRE (sister to my ancestor Erasmus M Helm) died in 1925 leaving a will naming these people. Margaret HELM married Morgan VAN MATRE in 1860. 3. Hi, I'm new to the list and would like to inquire as to whether there are any others on this list researching LETTMANN or SCHMITT in Champaign County. My great grandfather was Gustave Schmitt--I have no birth or death dates for him. My Grandmother was Corena Barbara Schmitt b. Jan.10 1898 She was confirmed at the Hoyleton Orphan's Home in Washington County but always said she was from Urbana. I have several other pieces of evidence that point to Urbana as being her real home. She was married three times to the following people in order: Henry LETTMANN Alvin David HAYES b. 12/20/1895 d. 11/11/1940 both of these events in Urbana Walter Peters Though it is the Schmitt-Lettmann line I am researching I would be happy to share the information I have on HAYES and PETERS. I also have photo's of all but Alvin Hayes but, for him, I have a very complete memorial record with many names of the guests and a beginning of his ancestry. I also have a few newspaper clippings I would be happy to share and would like to post to a research site if anyone knows of one pertaining to Urbana or Champaign County that accepts such postings. Thank you for your time, looking foreword to hearing from you. Ronnee SCHMITT, LETTMANN, UNBEHAUN, ROHRBACH, WODRICH
