    1. Is Ethan A. Smith & parents listed in 1840, 1850, or 1860 Census?
    2. Ethan A. Smith (my great grandfather) was born between 1841 and 1845 in Illinois. He joined the Union Forces of Carroll & Ogle County 7th Cavalry Company B in 1862 and mustered out in 1865. He was listed as a Unassigned Recruit. In 1840 he would have been between 1 and 5 years old, in 1850 between 11 and 15 years old, and in 1860 between 21 and 25 years old. I'm trying to determine who is parents were? Does anyone know if he and his parents are listed in the Carroll County Census records of 1840, 1850, or 1860?
