Surname: Gray Classification: Query My grandfather, George Gray, was born March 17, 1871, according to his wedding and death certificates. His father was George Gray of Savanna, Carroll Cty., Illinois. His mother was Sarah (Heiser) Gray originally of Marrietta, Penn. Thus far, I've been unable to locate an official birth record. (Birth records in Illinois weren't kept until the late 1870s.) Grandfather's grandfather was Reuben Gray, who was fairly active in Savanna. Unfortunately, both his father and grandfather died the year he was born. Wondered if anyone had seen anything in a newspaper any other record, that would help point me in the right direction.
