He was a railroad man. He was 44 years old. He was married for 20 years to Cora Salisbury and had three surviving children, Glenwood, Fay and Gay. He was also survived by several brothers and a sister: Eugene, William and Silvia Pitkin. His father was deceased and his mother also survived him. In a later story his wife Cora was awarded $1,500 in damages. What is your relationship to John Ferris?

The Carroll County Genealogical Soceity read all known tombstones in the county in 1977. If a stone or the sexton's records existed, they were compared and the information put into the reading: The following was found regarding Pheobe Rose: Union Cemetery: Wysox Township, Carroll County, Illinois. Row 1, last stone along the east fence: ROSE: Pheobe, wife of Rufus, d. 7 Feb 1858, aged 47y 11m 17 days Hope this helps. Cathy

They are buried in the Mosquito Hill Cemetery, Washington Twp, Carroll County, IL. Interned with them are: Jennie daughter of ________ aged 3y and Mary 17 march 1866 to April 30 1911. Perhaps this will help. There would be no death certificate available for Samuel during that time frame, however, there probably would be one at the courthouse for Mary in 1905. They are 12.00 per copy. You can write to the Carroll county Clerk, PO Box 152, Mt. Carroll, IL 61053.
