I was unaware that there is also a Carroll Co. Indiana. However, I find it interesting that you name a time period of 1854 to 1856. My ancestors came to Carroll Co. Illinois in 1854, by way of the Port of New Orleans, the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse, and via Bremen.
Just a quick note to ask for help....here's the situation. Grandchild....Amanda.....age 14 years.....8th grade.....project for Civil War... We have been trying to find photos of the reenactment type.....but whatever we've found hasn't printed so far. Can anyone help .....suggest web sites, send photos (via e-mail) they are willing to let her use......... She's really a special girl and so far what she's done has been good.....just this stumbling block. Now, if you have any stories you would like to share with her.....real life stories.... well, she'll learn better from our stories than any old school text.....so we'd like to ask you to share them with us. Would like enough to know locations and time periods. Thanks sooooo much God Bless, Ellen FranKs

Your Miller/Albright connections do not hold great promise to connect with mine. Both of my families came from PaDutch area of PA to Carroll Co IL and then on to Grundy Co IA. I cannot go further back than about 1800 on either line. Much of my tree is on the familyhart database that you can find using a search engine. I am sure you know that names like Miller are very tough to search. Good luck. Rock Miller

I started my research in Fillmore County, NE and have ended up in Carroll County, IL.. As I research my own ancestors I continuously come up with the same names in both counties. I have traced my heritage back to Schreiners, Keils, Fuchs, Riehls, Plocks and Appels, Henkels and Hartmanns in Carroll County as early as the 1860s. All of these names have been found in Fillmore County, NE in more recent census images and can be traced pack to Carroll County as well. Does anyone know of any reason so many people who weren't necessarily related yet would leave one little bitty area and end up together in another little bitty area in the middle of nowhere? And if anyone has any info or connection to the following Carroll County natives, I would love to pick your brain. Frederick C. and Anna Elizabeth (Fuchs) Schreiner were my ggg grandparents. This I know for a fact. I'm trying to trace the descendency, however, and I'm oh so confused. I am grateful for the amazing amount of records available online for Carroll County but am getting very bogged down by alternate spellings and dates that are too close to be mere coincidence. Currently, I am stuck on Carl G Schreiner, AKA Charles G Schriner, born 2-10-1881 to Fred and Anna. The 1920 census gives him a wife Laura M. born approx 1881and a son Carl b in 1913. The Carroll County Birth records online through the Carroll County Geneology Society, list a Charles G Schriner with wife Luna May who had a son, Carl Henry on 10-24-1913. Then, another poster mentioned an alternate spelling for Laura/Luna with the last name of Wise. Does anyone have any info on this little family that will hold up better than my current method of "eenie meenie minie moe, pick a fact and call it so"?
