    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yg.2ADE/864 Message Board Post: Seeking any information on the John Shea/Shay Family. John Shay(b. Ireland1818 - farmer/R.R. worker, d. 1901/Mt. Carroll, IL) married c. 1860, Stephenson Co., IL, to Mrs. Ellen Mullin-Sullivan(b. Ireland - 1831, d. 1916/?) They lived most of their lives in Mt. Carroll and raised a large family there. Ellen had a daughter, Mary Sullivan(b. 1855), and son, Denis Sullivan, Jr.(b. Dec. 1857/Durand, IL) from a previous marriage to Denis Sullivan, Sr. who died, in 1857, shortly before his son was born. Ellen & John had 7 children, four of whom reached adulthood and married: James, Katherine(Katie), Alice & John Wm. Shay. I would like to locate info on marriages of Katherine & Alice Shay, Mary Sullivan, and any info on James Shay who was still living in 1901 when his father passed away. Also would like knowledge of possibly a third marriage by Ellen Sullivan-Shay, as she lived 15 years beyond John Shay's death, and may likely have married again. Mary Sullivan may have marri! ed about 1873/74 in Mt. Carroll as after this date, she is no longer listed in census at home. Have never been able to locate any information on Denis Sullivan, Sr.'s death. His son was born in Durand, Winnebago Co, IL. Am especially interested in any descendants of the female lines & any marriage announcements and/or obits. All practiced the Catholic Faith and possibly there are records at the Mt. Carroll Catholic Church for marriages, births, deaths. I do have the knowledge that all, except Denis Sullivan, Sr., are buried in the Irish Grove Cemetery(Stephenson Co.), however, the churches affiliated with this cemetery have no records of value for any of them. Where are the newspapers for Mt. Carroll archived? Any info on any of these family members or descendants would be gratefully appreciated. Would definitely love to make a family connection, especially to the Mary Sullivan descendants. Thanks in advance for anyone's kind efforts. Elli

    1. Mailing list manners
    2. Bob Mosher
    3. All, A few concepts on mailing lists for you to consider! Remember, the list is public, EVERYONE sees the messages posted, because of this, it is a good idea to do the following: 1. Sign your messages with your name, nickname, something somewhat unique so that we can identify you! 2. When responding, USE the person's name, nickname, etc. so they KNOW that your reply is addressed to them. If you are getting into a back and forth conversation, it is best to move it from the list to private email! Thanks, Bob Mosher, List Manager

    1. Re: Jeremiah Slick b 1822 MD
    2. Jerry: If your folks said that your family was connected to the Rev. War Vet William Slick, then Jeremiah Slick b 1822 must be connected to that Slick family somehow. In my e-mail dircetly to you I explained how there was an error in those who had achieved DAR membership via a Philip Slick who turned out to be Philip Slick, Jr., not the s/o William Slick. Even so, I'll bet that Jeremiah was the s/o Jacob Slick=Margaret Otto, with Jacob dying young. Anyhow, I'll keep working on that idea. Geo
