Sally, WOW! I cannot recall when I have received a more prompt response to a POST. Thank you very much! Sorry for the "Sarah" glitch; all my records show "Mary Jane'. Can't find anything to blame it on, not even the computer. =grin= Thanks for confirming the marriage dates. The TIPPY thing shows up every now and then. The TENTATIVE TIPPIE TABLES, a book published by the Athens (Ohio) Historical Society shows a liberal mix of TIPPIE AND TIPPY. This is the first time I have seen it appear in connection with Washington. The 1870 census entry for DANIEL CHURCH is new. The 1830 Daniel CHURCH marriage to Patty SATTER is interesting. Since Hiram CHURCH and Catherine DIXON were married in 1831, I wonder if Hiram and this Daniel could be brothers? Naming patterns (wherein Hiram named a son DANIEL) could fuel the speculation. We know nothing of Hiram's parents or siblings. May I prevail upon your kindness to check the 1840 and earlier census, if available, for both CHURCH and DIZON? Thanks again! FYI ------------------ Thanks and I totally agree that all lists should be warned about Halberts address book and if I am remembering right their travel group tours to your ancestor's castle. I remember when I first recd my "junk mail" from Halberts, it looked so tempting that I called the Chamber in Bath OH. Well, there was no CC in Bath so found a nearby larger city which had a Chamber and they gave me the lowdown. But, let me tell you about one person who used Halberts book and published a book which is a great resource for my Adcock family line. Robert McClane Adcock, now deceased but book still available, bought a Halberts book before 1980, sent out a form letter to I want to think thousands of Adcocks. He recd 100s of responses from Adcocks all over the US who sent in all they knew abt their Adcock Family line. Along with his own line of Adcocks, he included all the submissions with addresses of submitters in a 429 page book, fine print, plus index. Wow, I have abt wore that book out helping others or trying to find a connection to my line. Luckily, one of my relatives did submit an important part of our line. I agree, tho, that all lists should be forewarned about Halberts. If anyone might do what Robert Adcock did, they could get those addresses from an online phone/address dir and not have to order Halberts' fake genealogy book. I certainly don't want to see that company making any more money off of uninformed members of families. If anyone hasn't seen an announcement on your family surname list about Halberts, let's get the word out to those lists. Hopefully, all on the net can pass out the info to anyone not on the net. Hello I found the marriage for Catherin Dixon and Hiram Church in 1831 and the information is correct but the information on Tippie is wrong. The names I found in my book is WASHINGTON TIPPY -M- MARY JANE CHURCH -- Dec 16 -- 1849. The names are spelled different.. You had "Sarah" Jane Church and the Tippie spelled differnt than in the book. In the 1860 census I find a Hiram Church age 40 living in the household of Maylon Noies as a farmhand. He was born in Illinois. He was also Illiterate. I find no Tippie or Tippy in this census. In the 1870 cenus I find a Daniel Church age 31 born in Illinois as a farm laborer on the farm of John Heffner.this is in the Gilead Precinct. I found a marriage for a Daniel Church in 1830 to Patsy Satter which could not be yours. No other marriages except the one for Mary Jane that I could find for names of Church you sent. Greetings from newbie land. I have the following immigrants to Calhoun County, Illinois, all from Bavaria: 1. Martin DeKINDER, b. about 1849 in Bavaria, emigrated about 1872, married once and widowed (spouse's name unknown); married Anna Maria FARNBACH, Sept. 12, 1880; son John Michal DeKINDER born Aug. 28, 1881, in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a schoolteacher. He died in the 1920s in Lovelock, Nevada. 2. Anna Maria FARNBACH, b. 1857 in Bavaria, emigrated with family to Calhoun County, Illinois circa 1863-1865. Parents were John FARNBACH (April 5, 1826-May 20, 1900) and Johanna KAMP (April 8, 1832-Jan. 6, 1880). Two brothers, MICHAEL (Oct. 16, 1853-Jan. 5, 1889) and FREDERICK (1860-1927). Frederick's wife was Catherine of the great Anonymous clan (1862-1924). FARNBACH was spelled FARREHNBACH and FARNBACK; I suspect it may have been something like FAHRENBACH before the Americans got ahold of it. If curious, you can see a photo of Martin DeKinder, Anna Maria Farnbach, and their family at http://www.geocities.com/heartland/bluffs/4646/DeKinder.jpg. Martin and Anna Maria are seated; my great-grandfather, John, is on the right. I don't know the names of the others. The entire GenConnect system will be upgraded starting at midnight on Saturday September 5, 1998. The system will be down for 8 hours. World Visitor Center at: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/qindex.html Macoupin County uses GenConnect for a query system. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Macoupin Enhanced features of the new updated GenConnect system will be: Separate entry fields for subject and surnames ..... allows more descriptive subjects (non-surname words won't matter) Main page of each board displays the list of surnames for each query, in addition to the subject .... allows for more surnames to be entered 'Print' option now expanded to include the entire thread (user's option) Surname page will be auto-generated, and auto-updated weekly (more frequently with admin intervention), and will now be alphabetized and hotlinked to the query in which it appears. Cookie support expanded to include "date ranges". Faster, sleeker search engine. Multiple-word surnames supported - including the capability of searching for them. New search options added to the Global Search ..... soundex (enhanced over previous version), partial word match, whole word match, wildcard searching. Gloria Frazier

The school was named for Johnathan Webster, a man with a large family who lived in the neighborhood. The school served the community as a school and a church until 1884. The first building, a log structure, burned in 1876 and ws replaced by a frame building the same year. William Howes and John Baker had the contract to build it. On 20 June, 1949 the school board met and voted to close the school and made that district a part of the Bowen Community District. The Webster family was living in the Webster Community before 1850 It is thought the community was named for him as he was influential in getting the Webster school built---this from Pioneers of The Prairie, Wilma Brunenn. If this is true, then how wonderful, for he could not read or write. The Webster School was located about 10 miles East of Nauvoo and about 5 miles North of Ferris which is about 5 miles North of Carthage. The Coumminity of Webster was about 8 miles due East of Farris. The Webster Cemetery is just South of St Albans. Who was the Noah Webster who purchased land next door to Jonathan in Hancock County on the same day, 12 Feburary, 1855? Father? Brother? It was not "our" Noah since in 1855 he was only 12 years old. In Hancock County, a deed in book 80 page 48, gives the residence of Jonathan and Nancy J on 26 July, 1865 as Jersey County, Illinois. Since he is not with her in the 1870 Hancock County Census perhaps he died in Jersey County or in the Civil War. Johnathan may have been from Frankfort, Franklin County, Ky. In one record his name is John. Best, Wayne
Hi. I am searching for information of John E. Williams, son of John D. Williams and my great-grandfather. I have precious little information on him except for family lore. I did find his wedding certificate to Sarah A. CLIFFORD on April 5, 1882. At the time, he was only 20 (so b. in 1862) and a consent had to be signed by his father, John D. Williams. I have no location for his birth, just the year. John E. and Sarah A. had six children: Frederick Williams (b. 1882-1883) m. Minnie _____________ Mary Ebbert ("Ebby")(1883-1884) Williams m. Thomas Vice Charlie Williams (1884-1885) never married Florence Valretta Williams (1886, b. Mexico, MO) m. William Milton Best (1908, Worden, IL) Francis Williams (died at age 21 before she could marry) Sarah Williams m. Homer Fulford (believed to be of Alton, IL) It is also rumored in the family that John E. and Sarah A. were buried in or around Grafton, IL. I checked with Jersey County records and came up blank. I am hoping that Calhoun and Hardin may be closer to "home." If any of this sounds familiar to you, please let me know. I would be very grateful for any information. Myra Best Christeck
Hi Dan, I am sending this on to the other IL County researchers. Alton City if the same as Alton in IL would be in Madison Co IL. I can't remember if the Earp name is/has been in Macoupin but the Keal name if it was changed to Keel is a Macoupin name. Madison County Listowner might want to send this to the county list. Thanks.
