    1. [ILCALHOU-L] Hello and Welcome to the Calhoun Co List
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Hi, Just wanted to say hello to all and welcome all of you to post your families and anything else that might help genealogy researchers in general or specific to Calhoun Co IL. You need to post those families at least once a month as new subscribers come aboard. If you are having some type of computer problem, throw it out and maybe one of us can help you with that, too. If you spot a new genealogy link out there in cyber, let us know so we can ck it out. I volunteered to manage the Calhoun Co list to help out and see if any of my ancestors passed this way since most of the ones I am currently researching are from the southern half of IL. I am going to list some general and "don't" info. Spam including porno - the first one might get thru to the list but it won't get thru again from the same address. I will put it on the reject list. I watch new subscribers addresses go by but my eye isn't that good for loonies and they can change their address. Do not reply to any spam even if you want to throw umpteen four letters at them. If you do, they have your email address to add to their collection. What I do with spam - I blow up the header so everything shows (button on my Eudora mail called "Blah, blah, blah"), don't change the subject or sign it, do a forward and send it to the Federal Trade Commission at: uce@ftc.gov then I trash the stuff. Don't send attachments to the list. Send attachments privately but ask the receiver first for permission. Short posts get more attention than lengthy ones. Don't use copyrighted material to post the material in the source to this list. This is a public forum and you need written snail mail permission from the author or compiler. If you haven't walked the cemetery to get the data then you shouldn't use a compiled cemetery book as yours. Please respect the compiler or author's work. Quoting a paragraph and giving credit is ok in any forum. Whatever you do by private email is your business. Heated debates over a family or genealogy issue for a short period of time is allowed. Flamers, swearing, rudeness is not allowed. I don't even like to mention it since I rarely see such on our genealogy lists. If it happens, hopefully, I will be here and not gone for a week so I can get the person unsubscribed so you all don't have to put up with it. I don't foresee anything like that. If I might be of any help, holler. Have fun and good luck with your research. Gloria Frazier Some links which might be helpful if you haven't run across them, yet. You should go into the Calhoun page and volunteer to do look-ups thru there so any one looking in Calhoun can contact you. I do not have all the books you have, also I live in Missouri and do not have the chance to go to the records office like you do. You need to contact the man that takes care of the Calhoun page. 3. Hello Sorry but I do not have the 1840 census. I saw some other Church's in the 1870 census with families. All the Church men are about the same age and they were all born in Illinois. I do have the 1860 census and could look for a father of these men, might get lucky. Let me know if you want anything else. I cannot recall when I have received a more prompt response to a POST. Thank you very much! Sorry for the "Sarah" glitch; all my records show "Mary Jane'. Can't find anything to blame it on, not even the computer. =grin= Thanks for confirming the marriage dates. The TIPPY thing shows up every now and then. The TENTATIVE TIPPIE TABLES, a book published by the Athens (Ohio) Historical Society shows a liberal mix of TIPPIE AND TIPPY. This is the first time I have seen it appear in connection with Washington. The 1870 census entry for DANIEL CHURCH is new. The 1830 Daniel CHURCH marriage to Patty SATTER is interesting. Since Hiram CHURCH and Catherine DIXON were married in 1831, I wonder if Hiram and this Daniel could be brothers? Naming patterns (wherein Hiram named a son DANIEL) could fuel the speculation. We know nothing of Hiram's parents or siblings. May I prevail upon your kindness to check the 1840 and earlier census, if available, for both CHURCH and DIZON? Thanks again!
