    1. [ILCALHOU-L] ARNETTS in Calhoun County
    2. Claire Edrich
    3. Is anyone researching the family of William Lee Arnett, who married Mary Matilda Delong on April 12, 1857? I'm interested in children and finding out when Mary and William died. There are no ARNETTS in the Calhoun County cemetery book. Thanks Claire in Denver

    3. Hi Gloria, Loved your note! Are you researching the Dennis Foiles family? If so I would love to hear from you! I am primarily researching the DELONG family, Dennis' wife was Winnie Esther DELONG. My maiden name was SMITH, my Calhoun connection is the William Wesley SMITH family, he was pastor of the Oasis Methodist Church until he died in 1881. His mother was Mary Elvira DELONG. I have a little information on the children of Winnie Delong and Dennis Foiles. Have a good day, Claire Smith Edrich

    1. Re: [ILCALHOU-L] I am proud to be a Veteran
    2. Hi Gloria: Nice to hear from you on 11/10. It is an even more important to me than Veteran's day. The reason - My mother's birthday and my husband was a 4th Division Marine - four beach landings in 13 months - Roi Namur, Siapan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Both of them have now passed away, so I put flowers on graves a day earlier than most. I am proud to be an American - and during WWII I worked for the Army Air Corp, AAFCTTC (Army Air Force Central Technical Training Command) as a PFC (Poor Foolish Civilian). Do You live in Calhoun? I'm in California now - But as a kid, spent my winters going to school in St. Louis and my summers with my grandparents, Tom and Susan Ansell, at their farm on Fox Creek. My grandmother was Susan Elizabeth Blackorby, mother of twelve children - all of whom lived to be adults. I went to the farm and was delited to see the house so nicely up-dated. There was a Foiles living there, but think they sold the property while I was back there. The house was built by my Grandfather (with the help of friends and neighbors) in the latter half of the 1800's. I enjoyed visiting the Calhoun Historical Society and got there Cemetary and Marriage Books. Also got a copy of an article on Dr. Southworth. He married three Blackorby women (sisters of my grandmother's mother) and he raised my grandmother after her father and her mother remarried to a David. I'm having goodluck in finding my Foiles, Cloniger, Seiver, etc. and think I may have made a good follow-up contact for the Blackorby. I visited all the cemetaries. Summit Grove has the most of my Ansell Family members, but one of my aunts is buried in the City(?) cemetary in Kampsville and, of couse, some in Fox Creek cemetary. If you have any info on my families I would love to hear from you. And if I have any info you would like to know about, I would be pleased to share. And thanks for note. Gloria PS: Would you believe that I,m Gloria because I was born on the 4th of July?

    1. [ILCALHOU-L] NAIL at NARA
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Mar Garsh, this is November, isn't it? Somehow it managed to stay in my inbox. I have searched the NAIL system. They are adding more all the time. But they are adding my Adcock criminals. Well, maybe that was one criminal listed a few times. http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html Then there are some of my Adcock Indians. Well, you know how Mom or someone said there is Indian blood in our line and she wouldn't give me a clue besides "look at that picture, you can tell there is Indian in her/him." Then all of the relatives ask you if you have heard that there was Cherokee, or some other 5 tribes in our bloodline..... and you don't even know how to start to find them........None of my squaws had last names. Good luck with your searches. gf >Reply-To: <cindyldq@midwest.net> >From: "cindy leonard" <cindyldq@midwest.net> >To: <smckenzi@midwest.net> >Cc: <glofra@townsqr.com> >Subject: FYI - #1 >Date: Tue, 16 Jun 1998 13:15:12 -0500 >X-MSMail-Priority: Normal >X-Mailer: Microsoft Internet Mail 4.70.1157 > >From "The Family Tree" by The Odom Library, P.O. 1. [ILCALHOU-L] Pop Up Ad Help
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. One solution I recd for GeoCities popup ads is that they can be made permanent at the top of the page; they won't popup; they just stay. Here is another one I recd: Quote: "I wrote a note on our opening page to help people deal with them. The key is to NOT "hit the X." If you minimize the pop-up or simply click on the web page you won't have to look at it AND when you go to other pages on the site another pop-up will not, uh, pop up. Don't close the ad (by hitting the X) until you leave GeoCities. Hope this helps." Another solution would be to have an email address where we could write GeoCities our distaste in really wanting to read good material and the popup ads keep us so frustrated that we just leave. Thanks for the ideas. Gloria

    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. Some days I am quiet and some days I can't keep my finger off the send key.<g> I do agree with those ads you can't get rid of to read a web page, tho. All I can see is banging on the stupid X. gf ------------- Copy:::: << I do dread go visiting any site located at Geocities because every time I do - my computer will freeze up because of ^&*( ad popups plus midi/wav built in. Geocities is only one that I know of that have ad pop up on EVERY page unless you pay them not to. >> To me who spends darn near every waking moment on-line because apart from GenWeb I do make my living on the puter, those ads & consoles are absolutely irritating. I think the only ones on this list that have said otherwise are in fact ones that 1. Have their pages there 2. Don't spend a lot of time on the web I cannot even close or get off these sites til the blasted first pop-up has finished loading & they are slow! No matter how many times I hammer on the X. And yes... freeze up is another major problem!!!! PS. I also would not think it would be out of line to have some guidlelines as to where pages are located. ------ End Copy

    1. [ILCALHOU-L] PECK-CRAWFORD
    2. Betty Doremus
    3. My grgrgrandparents were Theodorus PECK and Lucinda CRAWFORD SILKWOOD HEWITT who lived at Farmer's Ridge in Calhoun Co. They were married 14 May 1843 in Calhoun. I have Lucinda as being born 9 Apr 1817 in KY dau of James CRAWFORD. Does anyone know of the CRAWFORD family? Do they appear on the 1840 or 1850 census of Calhoun? Lucinda married Thomas SILKWOOD 8 Feb 1838 and Wade HEWITT 18 Jun 1840 - both in Calhoun. She had a daughter Sarah Jane with Wade HEWITT. "Whatever happened to Sarah Jane???" Theodorus and Lucinda had one son Lewis Benjamin PECK 15 Dec 1845. He married Laura BORROWMAN in Calhoun. There is a record of Lucinda's burial in McConnell Cemetery in Calhoun. Theodorus ran for coroner 23 Oct 1838 and Lucinda is listed as a "widow" on the 1850 census. Did he die (as the oral family history says) or did he "run away"??? He had left a family in OH before he came to IL. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated! Betty Peck Doremus

    3. Dear Claire, I am cutting this close to your end date but if you have the opportunity I am looking for information on a Seidler(Siedler) Family. Fathers name was Henry, wife Martha or Mary; children would be Mary, Frank?, James?. I know Mary was born in 1886 but I know nothing of anyone else. If it helps the mothers madien name was either Hasson or Havson? Mary was my Maternal Grandmother. Appreciate any info. Thanks . 1. [ILCALHOU-L] Interested in transcribing 1850 Calhoun Co Census?
    2. Gloria Frazier
    3. If anyone might be interested in transcribing the 1850 Calhoun Census for the Calhoun County IL USGenWeb Census Archives Project, read about how to do at this site: http://www.usgenweb.org/census/location.htm S-K Publications will provide a free copy of any census they have available to subscribers for the USGenWeb Project. http://www.skpub.com/genie/ I noticed the 1850 Calhoun County Census Book is available. If you decide to transcribe the 1850 for USGenWeb Census Project, signup here: http://www.usgenweb.org/census/signup.htm and mention the S-K 1850 Calhoun Co Census free copy of the book which you will need to transcribe the 1850 census. Otherwise, USGenWeb does not provide copies of the census for transcription. Everyone has to provide their own copy other than the S-K offer. Gloria
