Was there a state census in 1845? If so could someone look up the surname PATTON I do not have a male first name, but wife would be about 45-50, sons 13 and twins 8. Another family headed by John about 25-27, wife and possibly a son 7, and daughter 2-4. Also would there have been a printed index to the federal or state census from 1840 until the time of soundex? If so where would I find these, are they inter-library loan items? Any help is appreciated. Marge
