My g-g-grandfather, William C. Powell moved to IL from PA and took up a claim in Bond Co. at a place that later became Smithboro. He was born in Clarksville, TN 2-10-1818 and married 5-11-183 to Rhoda S. Causey, b. 12-11-1814 in TN. There is information on early settlers in Bond Co. about his brother, Benjamin Powell married to Nellie Cossie. Their daughter, Caroline Powell b 2-18-1836 in Montgomery Co, TN was married to Alexander Barnes on 6-30-1858. It also says that the Powell family came to IL in 1844 and were Methodists.
