Hello Linda G. Because it was where our Country was pretty much born every one thinks that "Philly" was the place , but it was indeed new York. In fact poor old George had spent most of his money on the war. His property sit right square in the middle of where four counties merged and he was behind in tax with each county. A neighbor lent him the money to go to New York so he could be sworn in as President.
