I have that William Little (d. April 16, 1837) married abt. 1831, Mary "Polly" Condra (b. abt. 1817 TN, d. bef. 1856). Could this be your Polly Stokes? Mary "Polly" Condra married June 15, 1845, Fayette Co., IL, John "Jack" Little (b. 1805 SC). He was the son of George Little, Sr. He also married abt. 1825, Cynthia Patterson; and May 18, 1856, Charity Evans. Charity also married John Brannock and Levi Whitten. "There is a marriage in Fayette County of a John Little and Mary Little occuring June 15, 1845. Evidence points to this Mary being the widow of William Little. An estate was filed in Fayette Co. for William Little who died April 16, 1837. Heirs were the wife and children: Alfred, William and Green B. and James. The mother, Polly, was appointed guardian of the children October 21, 1841. This was filed in Fayette Co., Box 138, Pack 7. Polly Little petitioned the court to sell land to help support her 4 children in May, 1841. Three of these children were in the household of John Little in 1850. In Fayette Co. land records we found John and Mary little selling land and it is the same parcel of land William Little's widow, Polly (Mary) asked permission of the court to sell in 1841." Tonight I'll go over the information you sent. One small point.... The marriage you sent for William Little and Polly Stoker should have been Polly STOKES. William and Mary "Polly" were my wife's GG Grandparents. I've viewed a xerox copy of the original marriage document, and although the last letter of Polly's name looks like an "r" at first, if you look at other writing on the document, you can see that it is really an "s." These two people are the worst dead-end that I've ever encountered in my searchings. Right now it appears that William Little was originally married to someone unknown. His brother John was married to someone else unknown. I think that William's wife and John Little died. Polly then married her brother-in-law William. In the 1850 census it is obvious that all the children did not come from the same marriage. I would give anything to be able to definitively unravel this mess and learn who William's parents were. I'll get back to you when I've gone over the stuff you sent more thoroughly. In the mean time, remember to keep in touch. >>
