-----Original Message----- From: Sue Draper <lowlandr@gdi.net> To: ILBOND-L@rootsweb.com <ILBOND-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Sunday, July 12, 1998 2:26 AM Subject: Millersburg in Bond County IL ca1862? Help! I have photocopies of the Civil War muster rolls for the sons of Stephen TETER; OH>IL>NE; 1814-1893. The residence columns on several pages, from different regiments, repeatedly show Millersburg, Bond County, IL. I noticed that the list of towns on the Bond County GenWeb page does not mention Millersburg, nor Baden Baden. According to GNIS, the only present-day Millersburg in IL is in Mercer County. The family was in Christian County in 1850, and upon marriage the children spread out into Carrollton, Greene County; Jamestown, Clinton County; Nokomis, Montgomery County; and Pocahontas/Greenville/Baden Baden, Bond County. One of the wives was born in Colllinsville, Madison County. These localities are all fairly close together compared to Mercer County. Can anyone tell me if the people taking the information for the muster rolls were just wrong, or was there once a Millersburg in Bond County? Thanks! Sue Draper lowlandr@gdi.net

Greetings, Have just completed a research trip through Bond and Clay counties (and other places) and will be updating my personal webpage in a few days with hundreds (over 500) of new relatives. Have also just added an "Obituaries" page under the "Queries & Surnames" page for both Bond and Clay counties. If you have any obituaries from either of those counties, please consider typing them up and e-mailing them to me so they can be posted. I've posted a couple that I picked up recently. Hope they will be helpful to others as well. Please review your publications, and if you have any that you'd be willing to do lookups in for others, let me know and I'll add you to the list. Anyone purchase the new 1920 Census for Clay? Does anyone have the 1910 Census for Clay? Anyone have Census after 1860 for Bond? Anything else? My g-g-grandfather, William C. Powell moved to IL from PA and took up a claim in Bond Co. at a place that later became Smithboro. He was born in Clarksville, TN 2-10-1818 and married 5-11-183 to Rhoda S. Causey, b. 12-11-1814 in TN. There is information on early settlers in Bond Co. about his brother, Benjamin Powell married to Nellie Cossie. Their daughter, Caroline Powell b 2-18-1836 in Montgomery Co, TN was married to Alexander Barnes on 6-30-1858. It also says that the Powell family came to IL in 1844 and were Methodists. Does anyone have information on this family? Thank you, Linda Garrett

I am looking for any information on the DOWNING family. I scant records show that James DOWNING, born c. 1754 in the Carolinas or Ireland, died in Bond Co., IL in 1834. Tradition says he had 1 son and 11 daughters. The son was William DOWNING, born 1872 in North Carolina. William married Rhoda SHORT and moved to Dade Co., Missouri shortly after 1834 and died there in 1857. William and Rhoda had several children, most of whom appear to have been born in Illinois. William & Rhoda would be my great great grandparents. If anyone has any additional knowledge I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Marilyn Martin jmartin@rapidnet.com Rapid City, South Dakota
