I am deeper into a mystery than ever: We had always heard that my great-grandfather, George, and his cousin, Lemuel Henderson, from Thebes, has killed a man and changed their name from Greene to Henderson. I could find no proof of it anywhere! Someone killed someone somewhere, that is a certainty. Well, now I have been doing some further research and want a 'splanation, Lucy, as Ricky Ricardo would have said: George was born in 1864. Alfred Alexander Henderson was born in 1898. Both have Ril(e)y and Nancy Henderson listed as their parents. BUT: Riley was born in 1815, and Nancy in 1820!!! It is not possible!!! Even two sons born 25 years apart would be a stretch! Please, did anyone know them or of the family there?! My dad, Lonnie, remembers Lemuels' son, Millard, coming to Sunday dinner most weeks at his mom, Lois', and dad, Johns' house when he was a little boy, so maybe someone else remembers, too?!?! Jane, As for the two sons born 34 years apart, I have run across that sort of spread in families before. In fact, I and my youngest sister are 22 years apart even. If Nancy had that first child at the ripe old age of 15 having one at 49 is not a stretch. The part I have trouble with is Nancy Henderson giving birth to a child at the age of 78..... As for the name change, I sometimes wonder if that isn't what happened to one of my brick walls. There is a family story about him having killed a man and came to Alexander County afterwards, and perhaps a name change would explain why I can't find much trace of him prior to 1848, except a supposed birthplace in Georgia.
