Tim, I just found an interesting (editorial) article about America, Illinois. I never knew it was once the county seat of Alexander County. Here is the direct link to the article. http://editorialmatters.lee.net/articles/2003/01/05/nonlee/top_stories/a79-a merica.txt Thanks, Patti -----Original Message----- From: thfree@pacbell.net [mailto:thfree@pacbell.net] Sent: Saturday, January 04, 2003 5:22 PM To: ILALEXAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: America or New America, Alexander Co., Ill. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/He.2ADI/159 Message Board Post: Has anyone ever heard of the early Illinois town of America or New America. My gggrandmother made statement in her application for her husband's War of 1812 pension that they were married in 1829 in New America, Alexander Co., Ill. On the marriage record it states that they were both of America, Ill. I guess this town has disappeared from the face of the earth or it's name was changed. If anyone can help me locate this town or where is was it would be very much appreciated.
