    1. Mills in Cairo
    2. Chris Smith
    3. Would anyone be familiar with mills in Cairo? Or point me in the right direction to find the info? My gggrandfather worked at the Haliday Mill in Cairo from about 1870 til just prior to his death in 1915. I can't find anything regarding any mills in Cairo. I am familiar with the Haliday Hotel which was owned by the same Haliday's that owned the mill-but that's all I have found. Thanks, Patti researching Gray's in Cairo, Ill and Troy, NY

    1. Wilshires/1861
    2. Susan Senders
    3. I am looking for Wilshires that may have lived in Alexander County in 1861. My great great uncle, Joseph Wilshire, married Mary Saunders in Cairo in 1861. I am trying to find out whether my great great grandmother, Elizabeth, was living with him at the time. Their name was spelled "Welcher" in the 1880 census, so there may be a variation of the spelling. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

    1. Beall Family of Cumberland, Maryland
    2. Hi LIsters Just found out some new names in my search for information on my Smith line. In the Civil War record of Augustus Smith we found the names of his nephews: James H. B. (52, a farmer) and James B. Beall (47, a lawyer) of Cumberland, Maryland, in 1906. Their grandparents were James (1791, born: Va) and Maria (1795-1871, Cumberland,Hoffman, born: Md) Smith who made their home in Cumberland since about 1830 or earlier. We do not know who the Beall brother's parents were? One of these Smith girls must be their mother. Children of James Smith: Elizabeth (1817); David (1819); James (1824); Augustus (1829); Lucinda (1830); Ann Maria (1835) Augustus Smith was married to (Lydia) Margaret Hartman, they lost their son James H. Smith when he was six years old. They lived in Cumberland and would like to find out where he is buried. Augustus (Gus) is buried in Evansville, Indiana (he was on his way to his family when he took ill) and Maggie is in Cairo, Illinois Ann Maria married Henry Bloomenauer We have hit a brick wall and need help in finding information on the Bealls and Smiths. Thank you, Mary Boudreau

I'm not sure who her father was either. I don't believe it was Richard Mack Lindsay because I have a copy of his obituary, death certificate and record of death from the funeral home and there is no mention of Lola as being his daughter. He died 10 years before his former wife, Sarah Ellen Lackey did. I have no idea who her husband was or when they were married. I'd say it was before 1953 in either Alexander or Pulaski Co., Illinois but that is only an educated guess. Lola Ellis is a mystery and possible key that might lead me further into my own great grandmother's ancestor's. I don't have much on her either. Her parents are unknown to me. In the death certificate I have her mother and father are listed as unknown. I was hoping to find a link between your Ellis name and my Lola Ellis. Maybe someday we'll know!! Thanks! Matthew S. She was married 3 times. The 2nd marriage was to my great grandfather, Richard Mack Lindsay. They'd moved to Florida in around 1925. After he died in 1943 she remarried hence the obituary having her last name as Browning. I'm not sure who the first marriage was to but she evidently had a daughter named Lola Ellis, according to the obituary I've added to this query. Lola's last name, "Ellis" might also have been her married name. Lola was listed as living in Cairo, Illinois according to the obituary from 1953. If you read the obituary maybe something might sound familiar. I've been trying to find someone who might have a connection to Sarah Ellen Lackey that might know something of the first marriage and possibly more. THE ARCADIAN, ARCADIA, FLORIDA MAY 14, 1953 OBITUARY Mrs. Sarah E. Browning Mrs. Sarah Ellen Browning, longtime resident of Arcadia, died last Friday at Arcadia Gen- eral Hospital. Mrs. Browning was a native of Illinois, born March 20, 1883, in Cairo, and came to Arcadia 28 years ago. She was a member of the Church of God and had taken an active part in its affairs. She is survived by two sons, Charlie Lindsay, Nocatee, and Jessie Lindsay, Arcadia; three daughters, Mrs. Julia Gay, Villa Ridge, Illinois, Mrs. Lola Ellis, Cairo, and Mrs. Helen Crews, Ar- cadia; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Inna Albritton, Arcadia. Several grand and great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted last Saturday from Arcadia Church of God with Rev. Carl W. Bryan officiating. Burial was in Joshua Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Carl Adamson, Henry Eggerton, Emile Kipp, Herman Glockner, Pete Craft and Roy Bellflower. Robarts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Songs - In The Sweet Bye and Bye and Mother Is Not Dead Only Asleep The obituary and death certificate has her being born 10 years later then she actually was. Thanks for any help you can provide!
