Sally, is there any information about the Wittekiend family in the "Portrait and Biographical record of Adams County Illinois"?  There are numerous spellings of the Whittekiend/Wittekiend name. The family arrived in Baltimore about 1833 and lived in Pittsburgh, PA until Tobias and Martha (nee Yogel) Wittekiend located to Adams Co., IL around 1840,  They raised 6 of their 7 children in Burton, Adams Co., IL.  The children were Thomas b: Sept 1819, Catherine Elizabeth b: 1818-1823, John Nicholas aka Nicholas b: May 11, 1825, Anna Catherine Gertrude aka Gertrude b: April 2, 1827/1828, Martha Elizabeth b: Oct. 18, 1831, and Louis b: 1838-1839.  All of the children were born near Rauschenberg, Hessen, Germany except Louis, who was born in Pittsburgh, PA.
