Washington Wren Hudson was born in Loraine Ill. September 27,1846 and died at his home in Loraine,October 31,1924, aged 78 years, 1 month & 4 days. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the 51st. Inf Company I. Illinois Volunteers and served throught the Civil War as a private. He was united in marriage to Amanda E. Haynes at Fredrickstown, Mo.,December 10,1871 This union was blessed with 12 children. 4 Sons; Joseph of Loraine; Cleveland of St.Louis,Mo. William of Burlington,Iowa;and one deceased in infancy; 8 daughters, Mrs. Mary Littleton & Mrs.Hattie Decker of Loraine; Mrs Alice Van Blair of Quincy; Mrs Florence Fegan & Mrs Pansye Esterley of St. Louis; Mrs. Lucy Kelly, Mrs Denia Grant & Lizzie deceased. Besides the above named Children there surive to mourn his departure, his aged companion, a number of grand children & other relatives & a host of friends. Mr. Hudson was a kind husband and a loving father and enjoyed the respect of a large circle of friends. He confessed his f! aith in Christ at the Christian Church at Loraine, 20 years ago and has been a consistent and willing worker to the end of the journey. In the quiet even tenor of his way, he has written his own eulogy on the hears of Loraine community where he spent almost all his life. It is to such as he that humanity owes a debt of love and fratitude that our best patriotic endeavors will scarce be sufficient to discharge. Mr. Hudson was a member of the Masonic Order of Loraine, who had charge of the funeral Services. The Old Soldier Sleeps, but the country he helped to Save, lives on. Card of Thanks. We wish to express our sincere thanks and appereceations to our friends and neighbors for ther kindness and sympathy shown us during the death of our husband & father, Washington Wren Hudson and also thank the Masonic Order for the Service rendered so kindly.
