Albert Odell's daughter, Charity Alice Odell (Hudson), was my paternal grandmother. Risdon and Albert had 9 other siblings. Their parents were Isaac Jr. and Rebecca Moore Odell who were both b. in NC and who married in Guilford Co. NC on 20 Mar 1830. Isaac and Rebecca's 3 oldest sons were born in NC. During the mid-1830s many in the extended Odell and Moore families moved to Hendricks Co. IN settling in the area that became Guilford Twp. where the next 6 children (incl. Risdon & Albert) were born. About 1849 the family moved to Adams Co. IL where the two youngest children were born. Four of the brothers served in the Civil War--Thomas G. Odell, Wm. H. Odell, Alson Odell and Risdon M. Odell. The 3rd born son, James Smith Odell, died before the Civil War began. Although Risdon and Matilda had no children of their own, they adopted a 3 y/o Tlingit native Indian orphan named Gertrude (who promptly ! reminded others that "our Odell is spelled with a little d"). Papers containing my research on this family can be found in the genealogy room at the Quincy Public Library as well as at the Sheldon Museum in Haines AK (which has an exhibit on R. M. Odell and his role in the development of the town). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
