I am still attempting to find my Tully family back in Ireland and want to know if any other folks with relatives who settled in Bloomfield might be willing to share what they have found on their own families. The families of Smith, Leonard and Tully all seem to have known each other as they sponsored each other in the sacraments in Bloomfield. There must have been some kind of a connection back in Ireland. In the "People's History of Quincy & Adams Co., I found this mentioned: "Edward Smith, a horse fancier from Ireland, was one of the early settlers. He purchased almost 1000 acres of land in that area and invited his sons and relatives to join him. He gave them all tracts of land as they flocked to Bloomfield." According to the title, he purchased this land in 1818, long before Quincy was founded. My g-grandfather, Patrick Tully, married into the Smith family and owned a tract of land in Bloomfield. I'm exploring if this is how Patrick was able to purchase land. Any ideas, hints, results of your own searches would be greatly appreciated. Lois Brinks-Heath
