He is the son of Abraham Welfelt (born ~ 1836 by census report, and his wife Jan (maiden unknown), who is shown living with him and Charlotte and their children in Kansas in Cowley County Kansas in 1880 census. In 1860 Adam age 7 is with his paremnta Abraham and Jane, both 34, in the household of Abraham's parents Adam and Anna Welfelt (both 61) in Middle Smithfield, Monroe County. In 1850, before Adam was born, Abraham is in the Adam-Anna household, age 14, and there is a brother Joseph age 18, thus born ~1832. Is that the right Joseph for you (your Great great grandfather? Then my adam would be his nephew, not brother. By the way, the inference of my adam being native American is twofold, the folklore passed to my mother by her mother, the sister of Charlotte Hanna Welfelt, and by a newspaper clipping passed down to me from them. I will transcribe it soon and send it along. The gist is that his funeral was run by the "Improved Order of Red Men" which is a Native Americal society, flowers were provided by the Degree of Pocohontas (their Women's Auxiliary), and music by the Tohee Tribe.
