Never heard of a Historical Society getting this involved in one family before. Is this an idea that the local society could use? ----------- Each year at the annual Knott County Gingerbread Festival, one of the county's families are honored throughout the Festival. For 2003 the Festival Committee has decided to honour the Jacobs families of Knott and Eastern Kentucky. The Festival takes place in September on the weekend following Labor Day, beginning Wednesday through Sunday. Throughout the year, the Knott County Historical Society begins the arduous task of locating Jacobs family researchers and then creates a Jacobs Family Research & Documentation Committee. This committee begins working on a publication to exhibit at the Societies facilities for visitors to peruse during the Festival. Sometimes the committees formed decide to publish a book of the family's history to be sold during the Festival. The Society also seeks volunteers to assist in preparing the museum for family exhibits, window displays, floats, etc. The success of the family's honor depends upon how many family members are willing to assist in a volunteer manner.
