Some of us simply trade one small town for another. I grew up on a farm near a small town (Carthage, IL, pop. 2500 or so) and after college lived in Galesburg, IL (pop. ca. 33,000). While Galesburg is relatively small, I did NOT like living in "town" at all and when my oldest daughter was ready for kindergarden, we moved to a town of 150 or so in northwestern Knox Co. IL. I'm fifteen minutes from Galesburg, 45 minutes from a decent sized regional international airport and that's just fine with me (grin). Between Internet and email, I'm not that isolated. I travel quite a bit and visiting the city is fine, but all it takes is about fifteen minutes of driving in 6 lanes of traffic to make me want to return home.... I guess I just descend from too many generations of farmers--grin! I actually have to go back to 1849 before I have an ancestor who was an urban dweller. (and to make this a genealogy post, here are the names of my Adams County, Illinois, farmers, their areas of residence and the approximate date they started farming in Adams County): Hinrich Satorius, Golden area, 1850s Bernard Dirks, Coatsburg area, 1850s Foche Goldenstein, Golden area, 1900 Ulfert Behrens, Golden area, 1850s George Trautvetter, Loraine area 1910s Michael ---------------- Michael John Neill www.rootdig.com http://student.csc.cc.il.us/
