Author: JulsGo Surnames: BROWNING, O'NEAL Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.adams/7522/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This post covers parts of Calhoun, Pike and Greene Counties so will be posting on all three boards... Just putting a post out there in case anyone has anything to share or wants any information that I have... My great grandmother was Maud Browning. She was born in Mar 1892 in Carrollton, Greene County. She was the daughter of George T Browning and Emma Francis Halbert (usually known as Francis or Frannie)... And then sometimes E. Francis was the daughter of Hirma Halbert and Caroline Shipman... Caroline married a Nathaniel Brown and a Thomas Benton Reese after the death of Hiram. George T Browning was the son of Thomas Browning and who I believe was Mary Ann Black. George was born in Camp Point (according to his death cert)... Thomas was living with his parents, John S Browning and Martha O'Neal in Pike County. I can not find him in the 1860 census but in the 1870 and 1880 census he is living in Belleview, Calhoun, Illinois. In the 1870 census, Mary Ann's mother, Elizabeth is living with them. Thomas and Mary Ann had 5 children: Robert O., Henrietta, George T., Fannie Olive, and Hattie May. All these children were born in Illinois but not sure where... Robert O was born in August 1857. I believe he married an Amanda Honess on 3 August 1886 in IL. I believe he is living with a son, Robert Clarence and his mother, Mary A., in Green County in the 1900 census. He states that he is divorced. I think I also found him in 1910 census in Wood River, Madison, IL, again living with his son and mother, Mary A. I can not find him in 1920... Henrietta was born in Nov 1859. She married Thomas E. Edmonds on 23 Sept 1883 in Green County. In the 1900 census the Edmond family is living in Walkerville with 4 children (James, Josia, Nellie J., and Thomas Wyatt). Thomas Edmonds died on 28 July 1916 (they must have divorced as I have 1910 census with Henrietta is living as the wife of Rev. Stephen Ballard and son Wyatt Edmonds in Spring Creek, Pike County. In the 1920 and 1930 census, the Ballard/Edmonds family are in Alton, Madison. Stephen is still a minister somewhere. Henrietta died on 11 November 1935 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Alton. George T was born 28 Oct 1861 in Camp Point, Adams, IL... He married Francis Halbert on 24 November 1884 in Greene County, IL. They had 7 children, 4 living in 1910 census. They stayed in Pike County and are buried in Hess Cemetery in Pearl Twp. Fannie Olive was born in 1869/70 in Illinois. She married Wm. Little on 10 Feb 1884 in Illinois. They spent most of their life in Alton except for a few years in Iron, Mo. Fannie died on 7 June 1935 in Alton and is buried at Alton Cemetery, along with her husband. Hattie May was born around 1877. She married Isaac B Cox on 19 Sept 1893 in Illinois. They lived in Wood River in the 1910 census, back in Pike County in the 1920 census and then back in Alton in the 1930 census. Hattie died on 3 July 1938 and she is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Alton. Thomas, the father, was remarried on 25 Jan 1887 in Greene County to Elizabeth Buchanana. Thomas died 21 May 1903 in Greene County and is buried at Hopewell Cemetery. Elizabeth died in 8 Dec 1917 and is buried at Richwoods Cemetery in Greene County. John S Browning and Martha O'Neal had several children: 1. elizabeth Browning-- have no proof of this child 2. Columbus Browning-- have no proof of this child 3. Wm Browning-- in the process of tracking him through censuses 4. Adeline-- married Franklin Tittsworth. Live in Atlas Twp, Pike Co. many years... In 1870 John S. was living with this daughter and her family... 5. Thomas Browning-- my direct line 6. Jacob Browning-- died during Civil War 7. John Browning-- died of disease during CW 8. Sarah Ann Browning-- stated that she married Amos Robertson in Adams Co but I haven't trace this line YET... 9. Martha Jane Browning- no proof of this child 10. Mary Embry Browning-- no proof of this child 11. Henrietta Browning-- again no proof 12. Caroline Browning-- married James Matthew Davis-- Martha (the mother) was living with Caroline and family in the 1870 and 1880 census... The children that are marked with no proof... I found on "The Descendents of John O'Neale 1665-2006" page at rootsweb, created by John W. O'Neal, II... I am not sure how to prove these children but I am thinking possible church records... I am thinking they died at an early age but we shall see... If anyone has any Browning information, I would be love it. I have a lot from the historical society but any small tidbits, family stories, etc would be much appreciated... Thanks for listening to this long post... I also have a tad more Browning info also that I am willing to share! Juls Juls Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
