The St. Louis Public Library has one of the very best Genealogy Labara . They have EVERY states census records on film and indexed to. Use the Labara down town. Use should be able to check all the census records there easily, as well as passage records for Germans. Check the 1900 census records, as part of that records required them to list the years they came to US. Not always accurate, but its a point of reference, a place to start. Marriage records did not always have family names on them, not until the state required records, which made it standardized. Some counties keep very good records some did not. The churches in Quincy keep very god records and you may find the info from them. Was the Abelin family Catholic? If so the Catholic church may be able to help you, with several different kinds of documents. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Nix" <nixtim@auden.webster.edu> To: <ILADAMS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 01, 2002 2:11 PM Subject: Re: [ILADAMS] Marriage records... > Sue: > > I've seen quite a few spellings for the name: Abel, Abelen, plus the > ones you mentioned.
